Playback issues related to the next song in the queue

We received reports that upon attempting to play a song that's been added to the queue manually (via the Add to queue option), the playback stops completely and the play buttons on the Now Playing View become greyed out, thus preventing advancing to the next track.

Hey there, folks,

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this issue.

We're happy to announce that the queue playback should now be functioning properly for everyone running app version 9.0.8 (iOS and Android) and 1.2.53.440 (desktop). If you don't see the update on your end just yet, rest assured it's coming your way in the next couple of days.

To ensure you're running the latest version of Spotify available, it's worth performing a clean reinstall of the app.

If you're still having trouble with playback or anything else, you can post a new thread in the relevant Help board here.

Cheers 🤘

Similar issue here: will play full queue from playlist but if you add a song to the queue, it locks up and will not play anything. Have tried all solutions, including a fresh install of the app. Works when using the web interface but locks up when using the windows app.

I tried to reinstall from Microsoft Store and install directly from spotify without the Microsoft version, if I clear the queue it gets fixed,if i add a song to queue it greys out again. It happens in both version and the web player.

When using my Windows desktop Spotify App queuing songs freezes my playlist, unable to continue (the skip, play, stop, shuffle features are grayed out or simply won't do anything when pressing). Clearing the queue clears it but still will not continue playing the music. The only way to get music to start again is to play a song from a different playlist, station etc.

My Question or Issue

I have the same thing that everybody is talking about, it won't play any songs if I qeue them in the wait list, it's really annoying since i use this feature a lot.

I've tried these things and none of them work:

- reopening the spotify app.

- relogging. (via both microsoft store and the official website)

- restarting my pc.

- reinstalling the app as per spotify's guidelines. (I then repeated the first 3 things since it still didn't work)

- clearing the cache via spotify and by searching for the correct files and deleting them manually. (and then repeating the first 3 things again)

- using the webplayer. (don't ask why I tried this, I was desperate)

- I tried user customer service but for some reason it wasn't letting me. (different topic though)

- called with some friends who were having the same issue and trying to figure out how tofix it together. (we didn't find anything useful)

I'm currently on my desktop (windows 11) but it also doesnt work on my or any of my friend's phones for that matter, both using this version: Spotify for Windows (64 bit) 1.2.53.438.g246d60c9

Please fix this issue as fast as possible.

Whenever I try to listen to Spotify, right after the first song on the Playlist it plays a song from my queue, that would be fine if it played, but it doesn't, the music never starts and even if I have skips I cannot skip the song.

My Question or Issue

Spotify plays one song and then stops. This started on 12/20/2024. Before then I had no issues with playback. The Pause button is displayed, but tapping that simply changes it to Play and tapping it again has no effect. The only way I can listen to music is to click on individual songs in Spotify generated playlists.

I tried the following:

  1. Close Spotify and restarting it
  2. Restart my device
  3. Close Spotify, clear the cache, and then restart Spotify
  4. Delete the app and then re-install.
  5. Perform a clean uninstall and then re-install.

After all these steps, and by accident, I thought I had found a workaround when I was using Spotify at the gym. I was trying to close another app and inadvertently closed Spotify. When I restarted it, it played songs, one after another, without problems. The next day, I had the same issue with only one song playing and then stopping and I tried my workaround, but it still just played one song and then stopped.

I have tried this using cellular data and wifi and I still have the same issue.

After the clean re-install, which I did at home, Spotify seemed to be working fine again. However, once I got to the gym, I started having the same problem again. I tried my workaround and also tried switching from wifi to cellular, but it still just played one song then stopped. Today, when I got home, Spotify was not active. I don't remember whether I closed it or not. As of now, at home, it is working fine. Once again, I tried cellular to see if I could duplicate the problem, but I couldn't. I have a weaker cellular signal at my house than at the gym. I have noticed this issue at home as well, so it's not strictly a home vs. gym issue.

After a song plays, Spotify may play one or more ads and both the song and the ads sound fine. But once the last ad has stopped playing, the next song doesn't play. If there is no ad to play, then the next song doesn't play.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

1/14/2025 Update: I now have version 9.0.8.127 (Android) and it seems to be fixed! Songs play one after another, even after ads.
