Podcast episodes showing as unplayed

We're seeing reports that finished podcast episodes are showing as unplayed.

Great news - everything should be working as expected now! Just make sure that your app is updated to the latest version.

Same issue on desktop app....

I have the same problem on the desktop app. iOS app shows finished episodes correctly. I tried logging out and back in on the desktop but didn't change anything

Still happens on desktop app and web. How can it be possible that we are taking two months since this was reported, and Spotify doesnt fix it?

Same issues here:

  • Your device's make & model: Build my own PC, ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING, AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
  • Its OS version: Windows 11
  • Your Spotify: Spotify voor Windows (64-bits) 1.2.60.564.gcc6305cb
  • If the issue persists across multiple platforms (Web Player, desktop app, mobile app etc.): Windows player only
  • The affected podcasts: ALL

Same issue happening for me, only on Desktop app, Mobile app seems to remember finished episodes, but all podcasts show as unfinished/ new on Desktop App, have tried logging out of Spotify and back into the desktop app twice and no change.

It has been over a month since multiple reports of this issue have been received. Spotify, please be agile and release a fix for this annoying issue.

Same issue happening for me on all the podcasts that I listen to. I finish the episode and mark it as ‘finished’ and then the next time I go back none of the episodes are marked is finished and they all just say unplayed with the blue unplayed dot. Or if I mark it as ‘finished’ on my iPhone, it’s not showing on my MacBook. Very frustrating! it used to always work

Subject: Podcast Progress Not Saving in Spotify Windows 1.2.60.564 – Works Fine on Older Version

Description:
Since updating to Spotify for Windows (64 Bit) 1.2.60.564.gcc6305cb, all podcast progress resets after I stop listening. My "Continue Listening" list doesn't update, and individual episodes always start from the beginning—even after partially listening.

To rule out account issues, I tested on my older laptop using Spotify version 1.2.56.502.ga68d2d4f, logged in with the same account, and podcast progress syncs and updates correctly there. This makes me confident it's a bug introduced in the newer version.

Podcasts I listen to regularly:

  • Fest & Flauschig

  • Gemischtes Hack

Also affected in occasional listens:

  • Streitkräfte und Strategien

  • Verbrechen (by ZEIT ONLINE)

What I’ve tried:

  • Clean reinstall

  • Clearing app cache

  • Checked same account on different devices

  • Verified that progress is retained on older version (1.2.56)

Conclusion:
This is almost certainly a regression bug in version 1.2.60.564 affecting how the desktop app handles podcast progress locally or syncs it from the server. Please escalate this to the desktop team for review.

I've also been having this issue. It makes it hard to use the desktop app as a daily player of podcasts.

When using the Windows desktop app, the episodes are all set to unplayed even though I have finished many of them. On mobile and web browser, the episodes correctly show as finished.

I have tried logging out and back in, clearing the cache, and even uninstalling and reinstalling the desktop app.

I can even set an episode to finished in the desktop app, switch to another podcast, and when I switch back to the podcast I set the episode to finished in, it shows unplayed again.

Just updated Spotify, and it seems to be fixed. All finished podcast episodes are shown as played again 😊
