Podcast episodes showing as unplayed

Hey, 

 

We're seeing reports that finished podcast episodes are showing as unplayed.

Great news - everything should be working as expected now! Just make sure that your app is updated to the latest version.

My Question or Issue

After finishing a podcast, they are no longer marked as played.

 

There is an entry in the ongoing issues which is marked "fixed" which it isn't on my end (and at least one more person)

I am on the newest version of the android app available for my device (9.0.40.391)

It's frustrating that your podcasts aren't marked as played on your Fairphone 4 with /e/OS, despite a supposedly fixed issue. Try clearing the Spotify app's cache and data, checking background app restrictions in /e/OS settings, and even reinstalling the app. Since /e/OS might have unique interactions, consider checking their community forums for similar reports. Ultimately, reaching out directly to Spotify Support with your device and OS details is crucial to highlight that the "fix" isn't working for everyone and to get specific assistance.

Deleting the cache did not help. Reinstalling is currently not an option.

 

I can mark them as played manually, which works fine.

 

I don't understand how background restrictions would affect the status of a podcast episode.

Besides that, Spotify plays songs and podcasts without issues in the background.

Furthermore, it correctly lists the podcasts among the recently listened content.

I'm on version 9.0.42.529 on Android 14 and the App recently stopped removing played episodes from my Your Episodes list after being played. They are not even marked as finished unless I do it manually. I've been relying on it since I set an Remove played episodes option to After playing. Now I have find out that I've already heard the episode when I'm already listening the half of it for the second time. Am I doing something wrong or is a bug?

version 9.0.40.506 on phone iOS. 

I am listening on my phone’s iOS, listening to the episode on the podcast’s page.

 

I think there are two issues.

 

1. I set the filter in that podcast to play [(newest or oldest) and *always* unplayed], but when I come back to that podcast later, it reverts to all episodes. That’s a pain. 

2. I must mark a played episode as *finished*. If I finish the episode but forget to mark it, it will replay.  

I have not checked to see if I encounter this issue on my iPad or Desktop. Will check and update here.

 

EDITED TO ADD:

Having just said that, I noticed something different.

 

I always access my podcasts from my homepage > top section. Does this show my… recently listened to? I’m not sure. There are a few recently listened to podcasts and songs. Some of the podcasts show blue dots for new episodes. When I select my podcasts there, I encounter issue #1 I described above. 

 

However, if I scroll down to “Your Shows” and select the same podcast, the filter “oldest/newest + unplayed” is set correctly.

 

is this what you meant about listening via podcast vs episodes?

@Erim_sp I wish it's been solved in 9.0.42.529, but it's not. At least not on Android 14 that I'm using. 😐
