Spotify stops playing after an ad

We've received reports that Spotify pauses after an ad and the playback cannot be resumed. This seems to affect multiple platforms including desktop, mobile, and TV.

The behavior is currently being investigated.

Hey folks,

We just wanted to let you know that the right folks are looking into this.

We're not able to provide an exact timeline for a fix, but we'd recommend always keeping your Spotify app up to date to ensure you're on the latest version.

Thanks again!

Hey everyone,

Thank you again for sharing the requested details.

All reports have been forwarded to the team investigating this, however, they're still having difficulties tracing the root cause and need your help.

For this you'll just need to confirm you're willing to participate and share your device details if you haven't already. If you have, just share your current Spotify app version so we have the most up-to-date info.

Once you've done so, we'll post a confirmation in the thread that your account is being monitored by the devs and you'll need to reproduce the issue again giving us the timestamp of its last occurrence.

Hopefully, this will allow the team to spot the error and fix it.

Looking forward to your replies 🙏

Using Premium, Samsung, Android, everything is up to date. Everytime a forced pop-up ad plays during a podcast, it can no longer be skipped & then freezes the App. If you close and restart it is either still stuck on the the same episode with 0:00 showing in screen & if you press play it says it's playing but no sound or video plays. Or it has just skipped to the next episode & if you try to go back to what you were listening to, it's still frozen... I have to Force Stop the App to get it to work again.

It's been going on for a few weeks & will have to cancel my subscription if can't watch the content I pay for anymore.

Just get rid of Ads on Premium, as THAT is what we pay for isn't it?

This isn't a user interface or settings issue, this is an App issue & needs to be fixed please.

This problem occured to me for the first time in years. Whenever an ad comes up, spotify just stops working. I use the app version. I cleared the cache, tried to restart my device (tablet) and even re-downloaded the app, yet it does not make any difference to my experience on the app

  • Your device's make, model and OS version.
OS version: 17.2 Model: MYL92LL/A Make: iPad 8gen
  • The version of Spotify you're running.  8.8.96.395
  • The troubleshooting steps you've tried so far. I have tried them all. Clean install, playing on web, playing on iPad, I’ve tried everything, and I mean everything.

willing to participate and will post the next time it happens

At this point I'm convinced they're just fishing to get people to sign up
for the no ad version. Been a problem way too long for anything else. Jokes
on them though, I just gave up and stopped using it.

When will this issue be resolved? It's been going on for months, and problems every day to date! I don't think it is a priority at all.

It's been going on forages. No sign of a fix. But I went for a 4 month offer as a way of testing and straight away its fixed. Be interesting to see when I cancel will the issue reappear..... we shall wait and see.. and yes Spotify I've uploaded everything.

I have been having this issue on all my devices. I cleared the cache, tried a different browser, and even tried a different network. Any suggestions?
