Clicking on the album art for the currently playing song no longer jumps to that song's position in the current playlist. Instead, it takes me to the album page associate with that track. Except it doesn't even take me to the album page as if I had clicked on the track title. Instead, it takes me to the very bottom of the album page. This is not useful in any way, so I'm going to give spotify the benefit of the doubt and assume this is a bug and not a newly introduced feature.
If this is a new feature for some reason, well, I guess we'll burn that bridge when we come to it.

Solved! Go to Solution.
Making three clicks out of one seems to be Spotify's new hobby in the last months/years.
After well over a decade of tolerating hare-brained UI changes and things just plain not working, I'm now also looking for an alternative. What service did you end up with?
Edit: Just to make clear how utterly inane this change is, a simple operation that used to take 1 click now takes 3 clicks. Click now playing, click the source at the top, click AGAIN to get that ugly monstrosity out of my face. This is just terrible design.
Edit 2: As others have said already (and it shouldn't NEED to be said!); DESKTOP IS NOT MOBILE! So utterly frustrating.
I'm using Spotify on Windows 11 desktop app.
It used to be that when I play a song from a playlist and navigate away from the playlist, I could click on the song's image at the bottom left corner and then the app would take me back to the current playlist and center the view on currently active song in the playlist.
This functionality seems to have been changed. Now clicking on the image expands a right side panel with additional information about the artist. Is there still a way to get back to current playlist with a single click?
Thank you!
Hi @Toolikx,
Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community, and welcome!
You can click on the title of the playlist, right above the album art, in that right side panel that you mentioned (called “Now playing view”), and it will take you to where you are in the playlist that’s currently playing.
Sometimes this feature requires one more click, since you need to open the Now playing view first if it isn’t already open, but at least it works.
There’s also a Live Idea for bringing back the functionality of clicking on the album art to return to the current position in the playlist. If it's something you’re interested in, I'd recommend adding your +VOTE to the idea, as the more votes an idea gets, the likelier it is that Spotify will implement it; and you can read more about how feedback on ideas reaches Spotify here.
You can also Subscribe to the idea by clicking the three dots next to its title; that way you can be sure to be informed of any relevant updates.
Let me know if you have any other questions, and have a good day!
I normally use the BACK button on my mouse, or the back button on the main pane.
This is irritating. I want the old behaviour back. I have the Now Playing panel closed for a reason and this process adds a whole extra click to get where I want... just to align with mobile? we don't need every process to be exactly the same. I use my mouse and have to drag it around on a desktop, it's not a seamless process like mobile. Change it back.
The new feature doesn't work for your Liked Songs library. When playing the Liked Songs library in shuffle mode, if you click on the playlist title (i.e., the text "Liked Songs") above the album artwork in the "Now Playing View," it does not jump to the exact location of the track currently playing. This is frustrating when you have tens of thousands of songs in your Liked library and playing them on shuffle. I understand the Now Playing View is supposed to allow you to see the "Queue" and "Recently Played" features, but this is different from navigating to the exact location of the track. By jumping directly to the exact Now Playing track location every time, you may find such information as "date added" and the neighboring tracks that were added to your library around the same time. This is useful for those of us with tens of thousands of tracks in our Liked Songs library, make playlists often, and need to quickly jump to the now playing track with ease to review the information not provided in the Now Playing view.
Is there a new button that allows you to jump to the exact location of the Now Playing track every time (which is different from the Queue and Recently Played features), including when playing from your Liked Songs library on shuffle? Thanks!
clicking the playlist title on the right sidebar doesn't make the app jump to a place of a song in the playlist like it did after the cover art click, now I have to:
1. click the cover art to make the right sidebar pop up
2. click the playlist name to get to the playlist page
3. scroll all the way down to the song I need to find
when before I could just:
1. click the album cover
what's the point of this change?
Go back to the previous way. I used to be so easy to navigate long playlists the old way.
Thanks for finding this and pointing it out.
It seems unfortunate to me that it wasn't pointed out in the response from Spotify when they indicated they removed the feature to be consistent with the mobile app.
Also, as a human factors engineer, I'll state that it is not intuitive that clicking on the playlist name in the now playing window would jump you to the that song in the playlist. At the very minimum, it should indicate what it would do in the tool tip. (But I would still argue it was more intuitive in the previous release.)
As a user, I'm simply hoping they don't take this capability away as well.
Thank you for the answer.
Although the solution You suggested takes me to the playlist (with an additional click), unfortunately it won't center the view on current track which is also important, especially with larger playlists. I did upvote the Live Idea because I think it's a very necessary feature for hassle free navigation within the app.
The solution only works once for me.
1. Click on Album -> opens Now Playing
2. Click on Playlist Name at the top and it jumps to the position once! (not if I click on the actual SONG name.. This doesn't make sense)
3. Scroll down in said Playlist, and click on Playlist Name again and it just jumps to the top of the Playlist.... NOT to the currently playing song
So this "feature" (that now takes 4 steps instead of one) is broken and completely unnecessary. WHY do you always have to change everything to be more "mobile" (extra steps, removing features) on a Desktop app? Like this makes 0 sense and just makes your platform increasingly frustrating to use.
Hi @Toolikx,
Thank you for your reply, and for voting for the idea that I shared!
One click on the title of the playlist in “Now playing view” should take you to the currently playing track's position in the playlist; however, clicking twice will take you to the top of the playlist.
If you’ve tried single-clicking on the playlist title, and it still doesn’t jump to the currently playing track in the playlist, I’d recommend trying a clean reinstall (following these steps), to see if it makes any difference. This is more thorough than a normal reinstall, and can be useful to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble.
Let me know how this goes, as well as if you have any other questions.
Have a good day!
thank you that was helpful
Overpaid designers are at it again, making the desktop app unbearable for everyone while receiving overpaid salaries.
Congratulations Spotify team, you turned yet another handy feature that worked well for several years into a convoluted piece of **bleep** that nobody wants. The "Now Playing" view already has a dedicated button on the right — what exactly was the point of removing this functionality?
It's almost perfect, but it doesn't works with LIKED SONGS playlist, it only works with created lists (whether it's from spotify or personal playlists). If your are on LIKED SONGS playlist, and click in the playlist name, it doent's jumps you to the current playing song
Hey Yordan, I am able to get this to work now based on what you said, thanks. On desktop, when I open the now playing at the top if I click the album/playlist name it takes me to the song. Couple issues with this changed functionality though...
One: It doesn't work consistently. If you click the album name once then it works. If you click it anymore after that it takes you to the top of the playlist. The only way to navigate to the song a second time is to skip to the next song and then go back to the one you were just listening to and navigate to it as I explained at the beginning of the post. Seeing as how this is the only way to jump to the song, it would be great for it to always jump to the current song and it not work only once while you are listening to it.
Second: I do honestly prefer how it was before (i.e. clicking on album art in the bottom left) for a few reasons. One, that's just what I'm used to. Two, it's nice to be able to click on the album art to navigate to the current playlist or click on the song name to navigate to the actual artist album, etc. And three, I don't like having the now playing panel open, and so it's annoying to have to open that panel to then click to navigate to the song. It just adds an extra click which is a nuisance.
I understand the thought of making it match closer to mobile but in my opinion they are just two different applications and I don't expect them to be exactly the same. I use desktop and mobile heavily and haven't had issues with either until now with navigating to the track not working on desktop.
I use this functionality a lot so it impacts me pretty heavily so I'm invested in it and just wanted to share my thoughts. Basically, I'd appreciate going back to how it was. Thanks!
