Clicking on album art no longer jumps to the current playlist.

Solved!

Clicking on album art no longer jumps to the current playlist.

Clicking on the album art for the currently playing song no longer jumps to that song's position in the current playlist. Instead, it takes me to the album page associate with that track. Except it doesn't even take me to the album page as if I had clicked on the track title. Instead, it takes me to the very bottom of the album page. This is not useful in any way, so I'm going to give spotify the benefit of the doubt and assume this is a bug and not a newly introduced feature.

If this is a new feature for some reason, well, I guess we'll burn that bridge when we come to it.

Spotify, please.

You turned a 1-click operation into a 3-click operation, where the clicks are on the diagonal opposite sides of the app.

There are already 2 other ways to open this sidebar thing that I never use, and now you removed a very commonly used feature to have a 3rd way to open it.

Why? Are you actively trying to make your product annoying to use (like the removal of the heart, and the library sidebar that makes everything take several extra clicks), or did you sack your entire UX team?

You are losing customers this way, and I'm awfully close too. There are alternatives you know.

Listen to your community, they pay your bills!

The only way to navigate to the song a second time is to skip to the next song and then go back to the one you were just listening to and navigate to it as I explained at the beginning of the post

It is sufficient to go to a different playlist or album view (e.g. just click on the album name of one of the songs in the playlist) and then clicking the playlist name at the top of the "Now Playing" bar brings you to the current song.

Hello, the feature of clicking on the song art to go to the currently playing track in a playlist seems to have been removed.

It now opens the 'Now Playing' view. This seems pointless as there's a specific button to do that!

Are you going to make this work again?

On the desktop app, it used to be possible to click on the currently playing song's album art to jump to the currently playing playlist, and move that playlist to the currently playing song (ie the one in green).

Now clicking on the album art opens or closes the "Now playing" view. This seems pointless as there's a button for it, and there doesn't seem to be any way of jumping to the currently playing playlist and song. This is very frustrating.

Could you add a method to jump to the currently playing playlist and song please? Either by reinstating the original method of clicking on the album art, or a button, or some other method please?

Hey! Maybe you could reconfigure the Shuffle button to also open the Now Playing panel. Can't have too many methods to get there, right? Then, on the Now Playing panel, you could have the actual Shuffle button. Just a suggestion.

@ovalseven Be careful, they don't understand irony.

This was one of my favorite features of the desktop client. Not to mention that this change is totally redundant since there's already a button to open the now playing view next to the lyrics button!!! Why do you have to take away a feature that has existed for several years, and replace it with a functionality for which there is another button on the other side of the screen???

Hi there @tobydjones,

Thanks for reaching out. We've moved your post out of the original thread as that was possibly outdated.

The app goes through many iterations and functions can come and go, but sometimes features are just moved around in order to accommodate new things. For this feature specifically, while clicking the album art will now open the Now Playing view, you can instead click the song title (in the bottom left corner or in the Now Playing view itself) and it will take you to wherever the track is playing from.

Hope this helps.

Hi Joan,

Clicking the song title (in either place) opens the album the song comes from, not the playlist.

However, I found that opening the 'now playing' panel and clicking on the playlist name at the top right does work.

Unless you're looking at the playlist, in which case it either takes you to the top of the playlist, or does nothing!

The workaround is to click on another playlist, then click again on the playlist name top right. That seems to always work, but such a workaround shouldn't be necessary.

My Question or Issue

When playing from a playlist, clicking on the album art at bottom-left did previously bring you to the playlist, showing the song being played in green. This has stopped working. Instead some sidebar opens up showing the album. This is completely crazy as I am not playing from an album. It is a much needed feature so please fix this asap.

Hi @bosi,

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community!

There’s a Live Idea for bringing back the functionality of clicking on the album art to return to the current position in the playlist that you're playing from; and if it's something you’re interested in, I'd recommend adding your +VOTE to the idea. The more votes an idea gets, the likelier it is that Spotify will implement it, and you can read more about how feedback on ideas reaches Spotify here.

You can also Subscribe to the idea by clicking the three dots next to its title; that way you can be sure to be informed of any relevant updates.

In the meantime, as a workaround, you can click once on the title of the playlist, right above the album art in that right side panel that you mentioned (“Now playing view”), and it will take you to the currently playing song's position in the playlist. Note that you'll need to single-click on the playlist title, since double-clicking on it will bring you to the top of the playlist instead.

I hope this helps, and let me know if you have any other questions.

Have a good day!

Hi @tobydjones,

Thanks for your reply.

You're right, in order to go to the playlist the song is in, you must open the Now Playing view and then click the name of the playlist that's on top. However, we understand you found the old way more convenient, and we appreciate you taking the time to let us know. We always aim to improve, so we’ll get this passed on to the right team.

If you need a hand with anything else, we're always a post away!

How is it possible that the problem is marked as "solved"? It is NOT solved.

Just got a new Spotify update. Disappointed this hasn't been fixed yet. Will it be?

Hi,

I have a specific way of listening to new music. I have playlists in my library consisting of, for example, almost 10k songs. I listen to the album and then delete it. Until recently, if I clicked on the album icon in the lower left corner, it took me to my specific playlist for the one currently playing song. Recently, if I am listening to a song from my playlist and click on the album cover icon in the lower left corner, it does not redirect me to my playlist, but to the album assigned to a specific artist. This is frustrating because it makes it very difficult to find a song in a playlist that has hundreds of songs. The magnifying glass function is of no use to me because it only shows the song I'm looking for (i need to see what is above and below), and entering the name of the entire album is idiotic because I can't even use the copy/paste function.

Just look into one of my playlists:

Please help.

Hi @berzerkinglemur,

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community!

From the “Now playing view" panel (accessible by clicking its dedicated icon next to the queue icon on the bottom of the desktop app, or by clicking the album art on the bottom left), you can click once on the title of the playlist at the top of the panel, and it will take you to the currently playing song's position in the playlist.

Note that you need to single-click on the playlist's title there, since double-clicking on it will bring you to the top of the playlist instead.

It's not a good nor welcome change. It opens the "Now Playing View" which I don't like and have turned off settings. So if I want to get back to the currently playing song (for example in my Discovery Playlist) it now (1) opens the Now Playing View, which I never want and then (2) I have to click on the playlist name on the far top right of the Now Playing View. Please change it back – I don't need it to be consistent with the mobile app. They're two different experiences in different contexts.

My Question or Issue

Normally when searching for a song on Spotify in my long list (over 4000 as of this writing) i usually then jump back to the original position of the song and replay it so it doesn't just play whatever else is in the search results but now when i click on the smaller icon that does so it just toggles the now playing view
