My Question or Issue:

When I click on the plus button to adjust what playlist(s) a song is saved in, I am able to complete my changes but very frequently the changes are not saved or applied to the song. This is a newer issue, now that there is no "save changes" button to click on. I have many playlists categorized by time & genre, so many of my songs go in more than one playlist, which has suddenly become an issue with this update. In addition, when I am adding a song to other playlists, I am unable to remove the song from a playlist at the same time when I used to be able to do all of this with one step. Now the only way to remove a song is to use specifically the "remove from this playlist" button.

Since the new update a few weeks ago, when I save songs to multiple playlists, they often don’t actually save. I have to go back and check every time to make sure they’ve been added.

Also, before the update, there was a “Clear all” button to remove a song from all playlists, but now that’s been replaced with a “New playlist” option. Why do we need two “New playlist” options when adding songs to playlists?

They really need to revert this broken menu now. It's unusable.

But here's the best idea for a permanent fix: Revert the single click to open the original 'Add to Playlist' menu, and put the quick 'Add to Liked Songs' feature on a double click of that same button.

Apparently they have fixed the issue of adding a song to multiple playlists, but now the search bar to find a specific playlist to add a song isn't working and i have to scroll and scroll to find the playlist i want... why they just don't go back to the previous setting that actually worked that had the "Done" button and everything?

Thanks for the update! I'm right there with you man. There was nothing wrong or even outdated (in a visual style sense) with the old way. These worthless changes fill me with rage. There has been nothing wrong with Spotify's stylistic choices for years, but I am absolutely convinced, on Spotify like many other apps, the programmers don't know what to do and or have no new real ideas so they have to change the UI for their own job security. Its rather easy to convince higher ups of things like this when they don't have any programming understanding/experience. Doesn't change my sheer annoyance with it though

The new 'Add to Playlist' menu is causing issues with saving changes and adding songs reliably. Rolling back to the previous version or restoring a confirmation button would solve these problems and improve usability.

Can whoever is in charge of this UI update please just swallow their pride and revert the changes? This new interface is inferior in nearly every way imaginable. The only positive it has is that you can see more playlists at one time (which is worthless if it doesn'twork properly). The final action of saving of a song is unintuitive and while they fixed not being able to back out of folders to add to others at the same time, now you can't save a song unless you back all the way out. So if you have folders in folders, this UI is a nightmare. The thing that makes me the most annoyed is that it's 10x slower than the previous interface. Previously I could click through my folders before the screen even loaded them. Now I have to wait for the whole list to duck down and pop back up every time I click a folder. It's so stupid. Any time I want to save songs to playlists now, I just wait until I can get to the desktop app so I don't have to waste hours of my life just trying to add songs to playlists.

Completely agree — the new ‘Add to Playlist’ menu is unreliable and less user-friendly. Without a confirmation button, multi-playlist adds often fail or don’t save. The old version was faster, consistent, and intuitive — please revert or restore the previous workflow.

You're absolutely right, they're probably making up issues or unnecessary updates to secure their jobs...

I don't even understand what the logic was from a UX standpoint. They went from a simple and obvious gesture like a button press to a gesture that requires a specific starting contact spot, prolonged contact throughout and a minimum travel distance. Like, it didn't even reduce the number of steps or interactions required to add a song to your playlists, it just made it require more time, effort and attention. What was the goal here??

Glad to see that other users dislike this stupid new way to add songs to playlist. Even the search field is broken. Searching a playlist do nothing !

Yes, bring back the old menu !

My Question or Issue

Ever since Spotify introduced a new add-to-playlist UI (the one that pops up and lacks a save button), I have had numerous issues regarding adding songs to playlists.

One issue is that if you tick a playlist and un-tick it, then select another playlist, the song will be added to the playlist you originally selected (but un-ticked) and not the one you selected afterwards.

Another issue: sometimes, when adding a song to multiple playlists, it’ll only be added to one of them. And sometimes, when un-ticking playlists a song had been added to previously, it won’t remove the song from all of the playlists you un-ticked.

Here is a post by Sinefield in another thread, about a separate issue, detailing similar issues to what I’ve been experiencing. These issues are unrelated to and predated the ongoing problem that thread is about.

The new add-to-playlist UI is overall a terrible user experience. Aside from these issues, it is frustrating that it requires you to scroll the UI up after opening it, and you also have to press the back button multiple times if you search or open folders. It’s slower and less convenient to use compared to the previous add-to-playlist UI that worked perfectly fine. I hope that Spotify scrap this awful new UI – but if not, at least that they fix the problems with it.

Still having issues a whole month later. What exactly are you guys doing that's keeping you from dealing with this? Even when I press the back button after trying to add a song to multiple playlists, more often than not it only saves to one of them. How has this still not been dealt with?

Hey folks,

Thank you for your patience.

We receive confirmation from internal teams that this issue about not saving the changes should be fixed by now. So we'd recommend updating your app to its latest version by following the steps mentioned in this article

It's also worth performing a clean reinstall of the app in case the issue persists since it can assist in eliminating any cache that may be causing troubles.

Hope this helps. If anything else comes up, the Community will be here for you.

This is such a dumb feature. You guys either need to hire a UX expert or fire your current decision maker because this is completely absurd.

So with me, I have playlists within folders within folders within folders. I'm ridiculously **bleep** about my organisation to get the best music experience possible.

So say I'm listening to a song and I think "Hmmm, I like this! I'll add it to my 2025 likes!". Here's what I have to do:

  • Press the 3 buttons next to the song
  • Select "add to playlist"
  • Open "Liked songs" > "By Year" > "2025”
  • Select the playlist
  • Go back
  • Go back
  • Go back
  • Song is added to the playlist

When it used to be

  • Navigate to the folder
  • Select the playlist
  • Press "done"

I don't know what you are thinking Spotify, but this is a brain-dead experience and such a pain as a user. Hopefully it's a bug.

Edit: Just saw the post above haha. Hopefully you've solved it.
