Hello, I just received an update.
The Spotify version on my son's PC is different
than on my laptop. Both devices run Windows 10.
The version on my laptop is 1.1.57.443.ga029a6c4.
My son's version is 1.1.57.443.ga29a6-a.
This version is considerably better because
it is very similar to the mobile version.
In addition, there are now background images
when playing songs in full screen mode.
You can also download albums directly from
there. What can I do to get this version too?

Hey @ANiebuhr,

Thanks for reaching out.

It would seem that your son got the new desktop app design that we're gradually rolling out. You can expect to have it in the upcoming weeks. You can find more useful info on the new UI in this Spotify Answer.

You should however be able to download albums with both version. Could you please explain in greater detail what troubles you're facing with this feature? We'll be happy to take a closer look.

Keep us posted. Weโ€™ll keep an eye out for your reply.

I can`t find a Download-Button.

Hi @ANiebuhr,

Thank you for your reply and for the screenshots.

Can you perform a clean reinstall of the app? This will make sure there's no old cache files causing this.

If that doesn't do the trick, do you see the option if you try from a different device?

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Take care!

Hi,

I loose my downloads when reinstall, right? On smartphone I can download albums.

Hi again @ANiebuhr,

Thank you for your reply.

Yes you're right. You'll have to redownload your music again on the device you're reinstalling the app on.

Cheers!

reinstall done - no changes - old version and no chance to download albums. But now all downloaded files lost and very bad internet here...

Hey @ANiebuhr,

Thanks for getting back to us.

We've appreciate the time you took to test this out and make your report. We will take it into consideration when moving forward. In the meantime, we recommend that you create playlist out of the albums and download them as a workaround.

Hope this helps. Let us know if there's anything else we can help with.

@ANiebuhr

Sorry for the confusion here.

A new desktop app update with a new design is currently rolling out to all users. One of the new features is the ability to download albums and podcasts just like you can in the mobile app. There is no option to do this in the old design for the desktop app.

You should be getting the new design shortly as it is currently rolling out to all desktop users.

You can read more info about the new desktop app in this news article:

The desktop team also has a blog post in the community about it:
