Local Files: Adding Explicit Tag

Local Files: Adding Explicit Tag

Hi there,

I've been researching this topic but could not find a clear answer for my query which I'm hoping you could help me with - I'm surprised at Spotify's lack of support for customisation of local files, namely the editing of metadata for them.

I'm looking, however, to add the explicit tag to some local files so that the [E] icon appears next to these tracks. I like my library to appear tidy and organised, and a few of my tracks are either versions unavailable in the global Spotify library, or songs from artists I'm managing who haven't yet distributed the music. Therefore, seeing these tracks as accurately and neatly as possible is important to me.

I know that iTunes allows tracks to show as Explicit with a "ITunesAdvisory" mp3 tag, so even if Spotify doesn't have a built-in way of adding this tag to local files, is there a particular tag I can use to make Spotify read a track as being explicit and apply the icon?

Thanks for any help with this subject,

-H

Hey there @harrimusic_,

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!

Currently there is no official tool in the Spotify app which allows you to edit local files metadata and add Explicit tags to the tracks.

If you think other users might also like it, go ahead and create an idea on the relevant idea board. We always take new ideas and feedback into consideration to improve the app. Here you can read more on how ideas work.

We also suggest checking this help article for useful tips on how to submit an idea. As a heads-up, it's good to know that the higher the number of votes an idea gets, the more likely it is for the idea to be implemented.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any more questions.
