New Your Library view (iOS & Android)

Spotify is introducing a new version of the Your Library view to mobile users of the iOS and Android apps. When you open up the Spotify mobile app you will see this new view. 📱

Check out this Spotify news article for more information:

Listeners Can Explore Their Spotify Collections Faster and Easier With a New ‘Your Library’

This thread is your go-to destination for getting an overview of what's new, asking questions, getting help for issues you might have, as well as to share your feedback on this new version of Your Library. Also, do you have any tips for other users on how you are using the new Your Library? We'd love to hear them.

What's new?

  • See your entire collection in one simple list
  • Dynamic filters and better sort options for your collection
  • Pinned library items to find your favorites, faster
  • More control at your fingertips with a new grid view
  • Universal search allows you to search through your entire collection and see your recent searches
  • Faster settings navigation allows you to tap on your profile picture to get to settings faster
  • Get to your downloads, faster

Here is a walkthrough of what's new:

One simple list:

Your Library is now one simple list. At the top, tap on the filters to filter the content you want to see and tap on the sort options to change the sort order of the list. To create a new playlist, tap on the + (plus) symbol at the top right corner.

Dynamic filter options:

At the top, tap on the filters to filter the content you want to see. Tap on the X and then chose another filter to see another type of content. Having no filter selected will show all types of content in the list.

  • Playlists
  • Artists
  • Albums
  • Podcasts & Shows
  • Downloaded

Sort options:

At the top, tap on the sort options to change the sort order of the list.

  • Recents
  • Recently added
  • Alphabetical
  • Creator

And in the "Playlists" filter view, you'll have this option to see your playlists in your own order like in the desktop app and web player:

  • Custom order

📌 Pinned library items:

If you tap and hold on the screen on any item in the Your Library list or swipe right on it, an option will show up allowing you to pin it and it will stay at the top of the Your Library list.

You can pin anything in Your Library such as playlists, playlist folders, artists, albums, and podcasts. The limit is 4 pinned items. You can unpin "New Episodes" to free up a pin and still get to that using the "Podcasts & Shows" filter or by searching for it. Same with "Liked Songs", you can unpin it and still get back to it at the top of the "Playlists" filter when it is sorted by "Custom order" or by searching for it. You can also pin the "Your Episodes" list to the main library view in addition to the "New Episodes" list if you also want to be able to access "Your Episodes" from the main library view without having to filter to "Podcasts & Shows" first.

To pin more playlists when you run out of the 4 item pins, you can make a playlist folder in the desktop app or web player and then move multiple playlists inside it and then pin the folder in the mobile app. Then tap on the folder at the top and there you go, easier access to all the playlists in that folder and that can be your 4th pin. However, you can't pin a specific playlist if it is in a folder, so you will need to pin the folder instead. Tip: In the desktop app or web player you can also move playlist folders inside of another playlist folder. That means you can pin a playlist folder that contains a whole bunch of other playlist folders if you want to get super organized.

To easily find the item you want to pin, the best way is to use the universal search. At the top of Your Library, tap on the search icon and search for the item you want to pin. The universal search searches your entire library for playlists, playlist folders, artists, albums, podcasts and also shows you your recent searches.

Grid view:

Are you a visual person? You're in control. With the new grid view you can view Your Library with bigger artwork if that's your jam. This is great for when you're on the go or in the car so you can find what you're looking for faster. To switch to the grid view, tap on the squares icon to the right. Tap on it again to go back to the list view.

Universal search:

The new universal search can be accessed by tapping the search icon at the top right corner. The new search allows you to quickly search through your entire library for playlists, playlist folders, artists, albums, and podcasts without having to go to a specific content section.

Recent searches:

The new universal search also shows you your most recent Your Library searches so you can quickly get back to what you previously searched for.

How the new version of Your Library (iOS & Android) evolved over time during testing:

When the new version of Your Library on mobile was being tested with users, a few of the main points of feedback were the following:

  • Add a custom sort option for the playlists filter like in the old library view
  • Add a way to see a feed of new podcast episodes like in the old library view

These two options were added during the testing phase. Other points of feedback were also made by users during the test, but Spotify is always looking to improve the app so hopefully the new library experience will improve over time.

I personally like being able to see my playlists in the same custom sort order I have them arranged in the desktop app, so I was glad to see that issue was addressed. A bonus feature was also added which is the ability to pin a few of your favorite items to the top of Your Library. I really like being able to have my favorites one tap away at the top of my library. A few other new features that I like are being able to quickly search through my entire library, being able to see my library in a new grid view, and being able to get to settings right from the library view.

Feedback:

Now that the new version of Your Library on mobile is rolling out to all users, what do you think? You can leave your feedback as a reply in this thread. If your feedback is suggesting certain changes, it is best to also post each individual idea in the Community Idea Exchange where users can vote and comment on your ideas and it'll be easier to track each idea. You can read more about how your feedback reaches Spotify here.

are you zonked?

hopefully not

well they also messed the desktop app, ruining mobile experience wasn't enough apparently.

I have to wait for Spotify to finish connecting to the internet for it to show even just my downloaded playlist. This problem did not exist before the stupid unnecessary update by the brilliant developers/designers of Spotify. They should have at least gave users the option to choose the previous layout of Spotify.

Worthless. I really miss to be able to se which pods recently has been updated, not just a long list of all new episodes. Since some pods only release one episode a week and some pods every day, the weekly ones disappears among the rest.

Why not add “recently updated” to list?

The rules for "new ideas" don't allow for "this update stinks, please just go back to how it was before" unfortunately. I'd have to think that plea has been clearly made by now with pages and pages of complaints (not to mention the spotify cares tweets complaining and other feedback mechanisms). I mean, it must be clear that there are big problems and what those are by now. It's so bad.

However, the system in place for improving Spotify is to make specific suggestions, so maybe even if the new interface is here to stay it can slowly be improved (back to something closer to the functionality it had before). A good start to a specific issue can be found at the link above. So please go vote for that and also suggest the other specific "improvements" needed and hopefully they're get enough votes to get considered as well.

I'm not holding my breath or anything, but there is always a chance (just be sure to search for similar proposals and vote for those instead of adding a duplicate).

I like the new feature but my biggest complaint is the removal of the Hidden / Blocked artist folder! I made a idea to have this added back. This was a critical feature to help manage artist that you want to block. Everyone Vote and share your thoughts please. WE can't let spotify remove critical features like this: [Mobile][Your Library] Bring back Hidden Block Art... - The Spotify Community

Nothing left to say. Worst update in all my years as Spotify user.  It killed podcast UI.  Loved the classic view.  Simple and easy to navigate.  Filters are terrible and require extra clicks.  Cumbersome

I turned off auto updates on Andorid to stave off this disaster.

I just tried to say I pinned a folder with my most common folders to the top of the library. It made is vaguely functional for now.

I hope it helps some of you that are as frustrated as I've been.

I have a bunch of podcasts I had downloaded months ago. I’ve been working my way through them over time. They no longer show up with the new my library layout. When I filter for podcasts & downloaded, they do not appear in the list. Some podcasts do, but nowhere near all.
the only way I can get to them is if I go into the specific podcast & scroll way back in time to find them. They’re definitely downloaded but just not appearing in my list.
is this a ‘feature’ or a bug? If it’s a feature please can you explain the point of it. If it’s a bug when will a fix be released?

I could not agree more. This change requires more interactions, and is not good UX design.

The recent change to library is not a welcome change with my use-case. I would suggest a way to enable the old view. My playlists are massively cluttered, since they are all in folders and you can only pin 4 items?

Using more time navigating, is that an improvement? Changing how the service is used fundamentally, a guide as how you want your users to use the service would be appreciated.

Changes where you do not ask a focus group of different types of users makes people look into Tidal, Deezer etc. I would suggest you try these new features with a group of people in different personality groups, and users that use the apps in different ways. Your Android app has 10 trackers, surely one of those tells you how the app is used.

I have tried being objective even though this change enrages me, since it seems like a very naive and/or arrogant decision for this change.

This isn't the first time you made things worse. The past tells me that you will do this again. The next time I might not be a customer. Your app is becoming **bleep** and the Google Play rating is not equal to the quality of the app. Apps are supposed to be easy to use, not make things more difficult.

You do realize most people listen to podcasts while driving and making us pay to see our list of downloaded episodes is very annoying. Enough to make me go elsewhere.

This update is the worst. Sometimes I wonder if Spotify only caters to people that have 25 playlists and a handful of podcasts in their library...

Here are my points of critique:

1. It is of the essence to have individual sorting options for each "tab" or "category". I want my playlists in custom order, my artists by alphabet and my albums by "last added". There is NO reason at all to not having that possiblity.

2. You seem to have completely messed up playlists in folders or sub-folders. EVEN if I put my playlists in "Custom Order" that only applies to the first "level" of playlists. If I enter a folder or sub-folder, all playlists are ONLY sorted by "last listened" with NO possibility to change that. Also, downloaded playlists in folders or sub-folders cannot be filtered and are always shown with all other (non-downloaded) playlists. All of this renders my vast and organized collection of playlists useless and requires a lot of searching and scrolling, since I CANNOT keep my custom order in folders!

3. Given how universally hated this absolutely garbage update is, at least give us a "Classic Library" option in the settings to roll back. This new update has absolutely no positive points for me, NONE.

4. With the great new Apple Music Android app and free lossless streaming on the horizon I might just pack up and go, since right now, my library is unusable on my mobile. And I know of other people with similiar thoughts.

Thanks and please, please fix this hot mess!

I hate this downgrade like the rest of you, but I do like that playlists now have thumbnails of the album art next to each track. That is a feature that went missing in an "update" somewhere around 2014.

Every artist in my saved files is gone now. After update it only shows recently played. Tried everything I can think of and trying to reach any customer service is impossible when trying to find online support. This is not the first time. I notice for over a year that artist and songs started disappearing. They said they fixed that and well now here I am with nothing after the last update

And for the second time trying to post this. I am now missing playlists that have been shared with me. It still shows shared on her phone but is nowhere to be found in mess of the library. I am going to be looking at other options for music soon. The old library was quite usable and the new one still takes way to many button presses to do what a flick of my thumb used to do.

How can I revert back to the old library view? This new version is **bleep**. It was much easier to find what I wanted before.

I need a dislike button for this reply
