Spotify is introducing a new version of the Your Library view to mobile users of the iOS and Android apps. When you open up the Spotify mobile app you will see this new view. 📱
Check out this Spotify news article for more information:
Listeners Can Explore Their Spotify Collections Faster and Easier With a New ‘Your Library’
This thread is your go-to destination for getting an overview of what's new, asking questions, getting help for issues you might have, as well as to share your feedback on this new version of Your Library. Also, do you have any tips for other users on how you are using the new Your Library? We'd love to hear them.
What's new?
Here is a walkthrough of what's new:
One simple list:
Your Library is now one simple list. At the top, tap on the filters to filter the content you want to see and tap on the sort options to change the sort order of the list. To create a new playlist, tap on the + (plus) symbol at the top right corner.
Dynamic filter options:
At the top, tap on the filters to filter the content you want to see. Tap on the X and then chose another filter to see another type of content. Having no filter selected will show all types of content in the list.
Sort options:
At the top, tap on the sort options to change the sort order of the list.
And in the "Playlists" filter view, you'll have this option to see your playlists in your own order like in the desktop app and web player:
📌 Pinned library items:
If you tap and hold on the screen on any item in the Your Library list or swipe right on it, an option will show up allowing you to pin it and it will stay at the top of the Your Library list.
You can pin anything in Your Library such as playlists, playlist folders, artists, albums, and podcasts. The limit is 4 pinned items. You can unpin "New Episodes" to free up a pin and still get to that using the "Podcasts & Shows" filter or by searching for it. Same with "Liked Songs", you can unpin it and still get back to it at the top of the "Playlists" filter when it is sorted by "Custom order" or by searching for it. You can also pin the "Your Episodes" list to the main library view in addition to the "New Episodes" list if you also want to be able to access "Your Episodes" from the main library view without having to filter to "Podcasts & Shows" first.
To pin more playlists when you run out of the 4 item pins, you can make a playlist folder in the desktop app or web player and then move multiple playlists inside it and then pin the folder in the mobile app. Then tap on the folder at the top and there you go, easier access to all the playlists in that folder and that can be your 4th pin. However, you can't pin a specific playlist if it is in a folder, so you will need to pin the folder instead. Tip: In the desktop app or web player you can also move playlist folders inside of another playlist folder. That means you can pin a playlist folder that contains a whole bunch of other playlist folders if you want to get super organized.
To easily find the item you want to pin, the best way is to use the universal search. At the top of Your Library, tap on the search icon and search for the item you want to pin. The universal search searches your entire library for playlists, playlist folders, artists, albums, podcasts and also shows you your recent searches.
Grid view:
Are you a visual person? You're in control. With the new grid view you can view Your Library with bigger artwork if that's your jam. This is great for when you're on the go or in the car so you can find what you're looking for faster. To switch to the grid view, tap on the squares icon to the right. Tap on it again to go back to the list view.
Universal search:
The new universal search can be accessed by tapping the search icon at the top right corner. The new search allows you to quickly search through your entire library for playlists, playlist folders, artists, albums, and podcasts without having to go to a specific content section.
Recent searches:
The new universal search also shows you your most recent Your Library searches so you can quickly get back to what you previously searched for.
Faster settings navigation:
Tap on your profile picture in the top left corner to get to settings faster.
Downloads: (Requires Premium)
When you are in offline mode you'll see your downloaded content faster upon app launch in the home tab.
In Your Library, tap on the "Downloaded" filter either in the main list view or after tapping on a filter to view your downloaded content.
How the new version of Your Library (iOS & Android) evolved over time during testing:
When the new version of Your Library on mobile was being tested with users, a few of the main points of feedback were the following:
These two options were added during the testing phase. Other points of feedback were also made by users during the test, but Spotify is always looking to improve the app so hopefully the new library experience will improve over time.
I personally like being able to see my playlists in the same custom sort order I have them arranged in the desktop app, so I was glad to see that issue was addressed. A bonus feature was also added which is the ability to pin a few of your favorite items to the top of Your Library. I really like being able to have my favorites one tap away at the top of my library. A few other new features that I like are being able to quickly search through my entire library, being able to see my library in a new grid view, and being able to get to settings right from the library view.
Feedback:
Now that the new version of Your Library on mobile is rolling out to all users, what do you think? You can leave your feedback as a reply in this thread. If your feedback is suggesting certain changes, it is best to also post each individual idea in the Community Idea Exchange where users can vote and comment on your ideas and it'll be easier to track each idea. You can read more about how your feedback reaches Spotify here.
Agree. I can't find my downloaded episodes any more 😭 The Your Library/Podcasts/Downloaded filter doesn't seem to actually show me the downloaded episodes. This is awful!
Android 10 / since the new update I can no longer play my playlists in ascending order. It's like the playlist thinks the first song is the last, and it will then switch to 'playlists based on' instead of the next song. If I view the queue, it's blank. Conversely, if I play the last song in the playlist, the queue will show the songs going back up (if that makes sense). I've restarted and reinstalled the app and no change. It functions fine on PC, it only seems to be an issue with the Android app. Is this a bug or a feature?
Hi! Me again! I'm sure you guys are sick of me now, but I just wanted to chime in and let you know it took FIVE MINUTES for my tangled mess of a "unified simple list" to load.... IN OFFLINE MODE.
YUP! You read that right. It took give minutes to load a list of DOWNLOADED CONTENT to even appear on my phones screen. Before I could just easily swipe to that beautiful little tab called "Downloaded", and not have to wait for the crappy app to realize "oh, woops! Not connected to the internet!". But no, now I have to wait... and wait... and wait... and wait... and wait a bit more, for the entire list to load, just so I can access the fuster cluck that is "My Episodes" so I can get to my PRE DOWNLOADED CONTENT, just so I can start listening to my podcasts... god forbid I wanted to try and find music to listen to...
Figured I'd make another reply just to show my intense dissatisfaction for this "glorious" new update. Revert it please! It's trash, the person who designed it is trash, and if I didn't have other people who still use spotify for music on my family plan, I'd rather burn the money I'm wasting on this un-user friendly pile of garbage
: D
And I've had to edit this message three times now because fork those disgusting auto-emoji's...
confusing, now when we add song to a playlist they all placed randomly (last used1last added to which end up to be random) and we have to search through a bunch of playlist in which one we want to add it. Yes there is a search bar but why not just let the playlist exactly like it always been and we know where to look to find our playlist.
Same thing in library. Always searching around where to click to have my normal playlist order that i place myself in a way to be comprehensive.
I feel like everytime they do something it's for the new subscriber that have no clue where to start. I've been adding song to around 50 playlist for the past couple years and everytime they mess with the UI my muscle memories just fail and i have to slow down to read what i'm doing cause they keep messing arround with the stuff.
It just got even worse.
I have my Playlists sorted by a custom order.
Now when I go to Library and select Playlists nothing shows up.
I have to change the sorting to something else and then back to custom. Every time I open the app.
How can you mess up a UI so bad?
Last update is terrible, a lot less precise, a lot of information is now missing (tracks popularity for one), it was already difficult to just scroll down with a keyboard but now it's litteraly impossible.
Dissapointed.
Where can i find downloaded podcast episodes, that were downloaded without adding to "your episodes" or any other playlist. I cant find them without following the podcast - now they are downloaded in my device forever, i can't rly find every one of them and erase them from my memory. Thanks. Rly bad update
Hey @bongecz,
Thanks for searching for the answer you need here!
You can find your downloaded podcast episodes by opening the mobile app and tapping on Your Library. Then tap on Podcasts, then on Downloads and you'll be able to see them.
Hope this helps. We'll be here if you have any questions.
hi. i just would like to say that function wise this new ui is not good at all. aesthetically i think it’s better in a lot of ways such as functions like pin stuff, grid view and the universal search. however, having an “overview” as default where u see all your library mixed together (playlist, albums, artists and podcasts) is not funcional at all. I cant see anyone finding having everything mixed together useful.
i’m not demanding to get rid of this update all together and going back to the old one. i’m just asking to remove the “overview” default view where u see everything mixed together, it looks cluttered, messy and harder for u to look for anything basically.
i say leave this update but change it up a bit so u can change between the categories that are at the top, like playlists, artists, albums, podcasts, etc. each one individually!
Not sure if it’s mentioned already but it seems that it’s not possible to pin a playlist that’s in a folder.
At least it should be on the android users. This is garbage af.
iOS user: i find this new library much more confusing to use, and since it doesn't communicate with the desktop app the filters are pretty much useless. i am better off making my own playlists and pinning them, however at a max of 4 this quickly becomes useless too.
keeping music & podcasts under 1 tab is really frustrating. the new episodes playlist is now the only way to get to a list of which podcasts came out today, which is cluttered by 'continue listening' at the top, regardless of the fact that the episodes in question are between 1 week and 6 months old. generally this update has me on the verge of cancelling my premium membership. if updates are not made, i take my money elsewhere. again.
Nice, since the latest update my library is completely empty. No playlists, no podcasts, just empty. Before I couldn't listen to podcast episodes without downloading them and now this.
The new desktop app is also worse, because I can't hide played podcast episodes.
So many things get worse here in such a short time. I guess it's time to move on to a company with a better app, who gives me something for my money.
The newest update is functionally worse to use and makes it harder to find music. It doubles items by showing an artist & album item, buries any new episodes of podcasts into submenus, and requires more menu selections to access something already on my phone. It seems like a move to push the search feature over the library, but that makes me feel like I'm being treated like I'm dumb. Please stop trying to change something that works already. This is bad enough that I'm going to cancel my paid subscription if something doesn't change.
This Update is G-A-R-B-A-G-E-!
First, you rollout a new junk UI on desktop, and telling us, this must be happend to be on par with mobile, and now you introduce a complete other way to manage you lib on desktop and mobile. This is so STUPID!
- You force us to unfollow ALL artist and albums, just to see playlist only! Tapping on "playlist" every single time, because the filter is not rembered, this is so STUPID!
- Sorting, (it doesn't matter what, title, date, creator, etc.) do not apply on any playlist folder. So you have to sort this on a desktop pc (custom order). This so STUPID!
- No way to sort by custom sorting! This is so STUPID!
- Spotify, you are so STUPID! LEARN TO CODE!
Just give us something so we can revert back if we don't like the updates. Thats all. Something simple would be nice.
