My Question or Issue
I got emails saying my playlists had been taken down. Below is the text of one of the emails:
'Hello,
We have found the following content to be in violation of our content policies, and we have removed it. Please see our Spotify Terms and Conditions of Use for more information.
(Playlist url code)
Regards,
Spotify'
The big question is: What is it about? What was the violation and why am I allegedly in breach of Spotify's Terms and Conditions of Use?
I've been using Spotify on the Premium plan for years, and that's just now (and with my biggest playlists). They lost their name and photo. My playlists have become the second largest in the category they are in, so I have strong suspicions that the takedowns are due to malicious reports.
I humbly and kindly ask for an explanation of what happened and why it happened and a solution.
Sincerely,
Lucas.
Solved! Go to Solution.
It's happened another 3 times since i posted this.
I have the same problem and it is beyond annoying. I've contacted Spotify support via chat and the agent simply said "I cannot help with this issue" and signed off. My playlist gets taken down EVERY DAY around the same time. It is a popular playlist with 1500 followers and obviously someone who thinks this playlist is a competitor to theirs reports it. The question, how come Spotify lets a playlist go down with ONE SINGLE report? This is a HUGE problem and it needs to be solved asap.
Hi Sandtmann, I'm very much interested in your solution. Can you please reach me out?
Hey there, hit me up on IG, its stefan sandtmann. Send me a message and ill try to help you out!
Hi there, my playlist was takn down for no reason, and I want to understand what is happening and how to reinstate it. I made that playlist for my 9 year old son and his friends, and it now has a large following, so its really disappointing. Attempts to discuss through chat have been blocked, so I am now starting to question whether I want to continue with Spotify platform at all, if they can do that (just switch things off with no reason and no way to contact them).
UPDATE: this happened to me over the summer and I responded earlier in this feed. i emailed **bleep** and explained the situation and the lack of help from the chat support and they put some kind of protections on my playlist that prevent it from being removed due to malicious reporting, as long as I don't change the description or cover image associated with the playlist
it's now censoring the email address that I contacted so I will write it this way, it's office at spotify dot com
i had the same issue just happen to me yesterday. the link doesn't work so i don't even know which playlist it was, but i'm fairly sure it was a private one which shouldn't even be possible??? did anyone ever figure out the solution to this? 😞
Last week I received around 3-4 notifications per day.
My playlist has almost 12k followers, complies with all the rules, so I guess it's just trolls reporting it.
I tried emailing office at spotify dot com but no answers yet.
Guys and Gals,
Same problem here. First time this has happened. In case you don't know HOW to access your playlist to get it to show up again, (as it doesn't show up in "Your Library") here's what to do.
Log into the web version of Spotify.
In a new tab on the same browser, type in the following:
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/<insert_your_playlist_here>
You will be taken to your playlist, but it won't have a name. Rename it, save it and you're back in action.
Until the next time a bot decides you've messed up in some indiscriminate and obtuse way.
I personally love AI. But the message that we are getting from Spotify is absolute trash. At least tell us what we're doing wrong Spotify. In my case, I've amassed 297 songs, that I verified are anywhere between 136 and 145 Beats per minute. For running to. The playlist title is "Running Songs 140 BPM." The graphic Spotify chose, a mash of 4 album covers. The description is "Metronome verified. Great for running with a pace between 136 and 145bpm. Enjoy!"
Have no f***ing idea what they want me to do, and no one to talk to. And apparently, I'm not the only one. The people posting here are obviously just the tip of the iceberg.
What a joke.
Wake up fools. If you treat your customers like that, we'll just look for a different service.
Regards,
Luke
And the show keeps on getting better.
I just had my playlist called "Running Songs 130 BPM" taken down. And pointed to the same useless general "what you can't do" faq.
That's like getting a traffic ticket and then being told to read the local traffic code.
"Figure it out" says the cop as he throws the ticket into your lap, and has the car towed.
Spotify, you're a billion dollar company. The least that your miserable AI can do, is
PRINT "The reason that playlist was taken down was" X.
What absolute bulls*it.
The beauty of it remains that you simply have to do the following to get it back. They don't tell you as much. But at least they tell you the playlist that they bonked.
Log into the web version of Spotify.
In a new tab on the same browser, type in the following:
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/ <insert_your_playlist_here>
You will be taken to your playlist, but it won't have a name. Rename it, save it and you're back in action.
Sincerest and humblest regards,
Luke
I don't think it's AI that's doing this. I think its other users who don't want your playlist competing with theirs. Spotify allows users to flag a playlist for removal simply for not liking it. It's b******t. Click on Report and see for yourself. The options I had to choose from were: 1) Sexual content, 2) Violent or dangerous, 3) Hateful or abusive, 4) Deceptive content, and 5) I just don't like it. The first four options are fair, but the last one, "I just don't like it," is stupid and an invitation for abuse. I probably wouldn't like 99.9% of the playlists on Spotify but I would never report them. I just won't listen to them. That's why I have my own playlists. In my case, my playlist was getting removed almost daily for a month. I just kept on adding it back by renaming it (Spotify changed the name to "unnamed" or something like that. I also made a back up just in case. Spotify needs to remove "I just don't like it" as an option for reporting and I suspect this problem will go away.
wth? Really?
Talk about a woke society. I don't like lots of things, but I certainly don't have the time to make it my business to "correct" these things. Wow.
Good thing is that we can simply rename the playlist and get it back up and running.
Too bad that "I just don't like it" is a real option. We can only hope that the people that "Just don't like it" will simply give up and go away.
Better option would be to post your username (lol, good luck with that one) and exactly which choice you believe goes against their policy. The choices should parallel Spotify's usage policy.
Funny, I didn't see "I don't like it" as a usage policy entry.
Agreed. See below. When you click on the three dots in a playlist and scroll down, you'll see the Report button. Then it takes you to the screen where you have five options. Note the last one. Insanity. In my experience, the person reporting me eventually gets bored and goes away.
Shades of 1984.
Why should we arrest your neighbor?
Sexual Deviant
Violent or Dangerous
Hateful or Abusive
Downright sneaky
I just plain don't like them...
Would love to see the script! Great work!
You figured it out right? How to get your playlist back?

I see you're back up and running! Bravo!
