Made a playlist after the new update the cover looks tiny and the formatting looks completely different from my past playlists. How do I fix it?
Solved! Go to Solution.
It's so awful. But knowing spotify, this will be forced on us forever now. I love squinting my eyes just to see my playlist art/covers! Yay!!
They won't.
Spotify is one of the most notorious companies for implementing things their customers don't ask for and never changing them back despite the outcry.
this !! i miss my tv blending in with my leds and bright painted room with spotify tvs playlist cover art blending in. The layout is so dull and uninspiring now.
This doesn’t even make sense after the in-app playlist cover maker they introduced last year 😭. Doesn’t Spotify want people to actually SEE their designs as big as possible?
Please, at the very least, give us the option to change it back to a centered image. The image shifted to the left with the title next to it, looks cramped and terrible. Now I don't want to create any new playlists until this issue is fixed. :'(
maybe stop testing it on my playlists then??
I’m just contributing to the noise here but I cannot stress enough how much I hate this change. PLEASE give us the OPTION to make our own playlists look how we want them to?? All my other playlists still look normal but I’m just not allowed to make new playlists like that anymore? What on earth kind of decision is that? Incredibly disappointing and frustrating. I literally have to siphon old playlists to make new ones just so I can actually see the album art. Terrible user experience.
The new playlist layout is bland and boring looking. They should bring back the old layout with the big picture and color matched backgrounds.
This new format is garbage. Spotify, please change back. The playlist photo looks so much better centered.
From,
A Loyal Spotify User. @decemberwahl
yes I miss the old covers! I like seeing other people and my cover art when I’m looking at the playlists
This has got to be the worst update, the original layout and format was graphically designed much better and neater, this update is not necessary. The original is great, the color, the main focus of the picture etc etc. It seems to be collecting more hate than love.
I am a UX Designer and in my professional opinion, this new layout is terrible. You should fire whoever made the decision to change the composition that way. It’s off balance and the hierarchy of content doesn’t make sense. Please change it back to the way it was!
Hi Joan,
The change to small playlist covers on the phone app is not good. Album art is an important part of the music, having the covers central with the colour grading was lovely to look at and makes creating playlists more enjoyable. I’m hoping this is only temporary, it’s a genuinely poor design change and I’m sure many people agree. Hope it gets sorted out.
Creative Director and UX/UI Designer here.
You might want to reconsider this design decision. As someone who understands that one of Spotify’s key differentiators isn’t just music quality or selection, but rather its forward-thinking, contemporary UI, this change feels counterproductive.
The future of UX/UI lies in platforms that maximize personalization. The more users can tailor their experience, the deeper their emotional connection becomes. That’s what drives user loyalty. Minimizing the presence of playlist cover art moves away from that opportunity, the opportunity for Spotify to continue being the platform that offers the most emotionally engaging and visually rich user experience.
I’d encourage your team to reflect on what makes users feel connected to Spotify. Much of it stems from the visual experience and the creative freedom that personalization allows. Evolving Spotify through UX/UI and product design innovation is more critical than ever, especially now, with competitors doubling down on their own experience strategies.
As always, I’m still a loyal Spotify user, and I want it to remain the leader in user experience. That’s exactly why I’m offering this feedback. If your team ever wants creative insights or just wants to chat, ig: <snip - moderator edit> 🙂

Man this is sad:
Spotify has always stood out not just for music, but for its sleek, forward-thinking design. Minimizing playlist cover art takes away a key part of what makes the experience personal and visually engaging for the user.
I say this as someone who really loves Spotify and wants it to stay ahead.
hope you considerate change this or at least let the user pick if they want this layout or the other.

Hi, I’m Catalina (you can call me just Cata):
Just wanted to share some honest feedback about the new playlist cover layout on Spotify.
I’ve seen a lot of people upset about it, and I feel the same.
Spotify has always stood out not just for music, but for its sleek, forward-thinking design. Minimizing playlist cover art takes away a key part of what makes the experience personal and visually engaging for the user.
When users can express themselves, they connect more deeply with the platform. That’s what builds loyalty, I say this as someone who really loves Spotify and wants it to stay ahead.
I hope that we can go back to the old one or at least have the option to pick wich playlist cover layout we want.
XOXO

Spotify, nearly no one will spend the time to log in and write on these forums. I speak for all the people who can’t when I say, your new UI with the playlists is a genuinely terrible decision. Decentralising the main focus of your whole thing, the music. The music is at the centre, not somewhere off to the side. When I mean the music I mean the music we love in our souls. It’s central to us as music fans. The new UI makes everything look like some official list or something, just one of many playlists they’ve suddenly become so very generic looking that it breaks my heart. Please Spotify gods, I’m begging you. Please change it back so the music that’s central to our souls can be central to the UI experience too!
I’m exploring my playlists from the past, how beautiful they look still like I remember them then to this horrible new playlist format makes my deepest heart sad. I had to go through the hassle of converting these images from jpeg to jpg just for you to look. No one in their right mind would think the new update is an improvement over the old centralised UI. Did you all directly compare the different upgrade visuals and say, “yes, that gets my vote!”. If this is a test, please stop testing it, because it’s completely devaluing my attachment to your product because I invest so much time in playlists partially because of the way they look aesthetically on your app… or sorry, used to look 😭
Please change the image back, i **bleep**ing hate how it’s so small in the corner
