Hey @Emily173,
Excuse the late reply in this thread, we are still waiting on an update from the folks backstage.
We've asked for additional details regarding what is going on and we'll make sure to pass along the info to you as soon as we have it. Thank you for your patience 🙂
Issue still not fixed! Let me summarise it for your incapable team (I only have a bachelor's degree in computer science, but I should be able to simplify it enough).
When a device with spotify connects to a bluetooth device, the app restores the state of the current playlist to a previous state that it was in when it was last connected to that device. That is the entirety of the issue.
The fix is exceedingly simple: Nowhere in the Spotify algorithm should a device change be able to initiate a change to the currently playing media or playlist. The two functions have no need to interact.
Maybe Spotify should actually devote some resources to fixing this?
I'm not sure if this is an intentional feature to make their shuffle appear more random, or if its a bug, but I view it as a bug with how inconvenient and annoying it is, along with the fact that is happens inconsistently, but still frequently and only on my phone. It doesn't matter if I wait 30 seconds, 5 minutes, or 30 minutes between switching devices (earbuds to car and back), but my queue will reshuffle.
The worst part of this bug is when I customize my queue by removing songs, get in the car, start up my music, and the songs are completely different, it just kills the mood. I SPECIFICALLY modified my playlist to have the songs I like most played, and now those songs are 30+ songs away. I'd say this is my biggest gripe with this bug.
Another issue with this is repeating songs. Say I listen to songs A, B, C, and D. I pause D, disconnect from earbuds and after a bit connect to my car. D will continue and finish, and it proceeds to play song C, B or A, or multiple recently listened songs before D. I JUST heard that song or those songs. It's not a great listening experience.
I'm not sure why the app does this, but this seems like an easy fix no? To have a fixed queue when in a listening session that can be changed by the user, and some way to differentiate between listening sessions, such as closing the app or even having a time limit on gaps between listens, like an hour or so. If its an issue with reconnecting to a Bluetooth device, then I'm not sure what the fix could be, but there has to be one.
It should still refrain from playing recently played songs, like at least 10-15 songs in the history. Spotify shuffle in general is wack, from falling into general patterns with shuffle (which I think is based on the songs you listen to the most and which songs are skipped the most), to queue reshuffling and playing previously played songs. The whole app is wack. I just hope they can fix these issues.
Hey everyone,
This should now be fixed. Can you confirm you're no longer seeing the issue?
Cheers,
I still have the issue.

My Question or Issue
The shuffle feature turns on by itself when I hook it up to CarPlay (corded), thus removing any changes I made to the play queue with podcasts or additional songs. This also sometimes happens when I hook my phone up to my car with Bluetooth. I’ve cleared the cache, restored the App, and tried multiple fixes. Nothing works, therefore I’m guessing it’s a bug in the coding.
I just experienced this issue yesterday. App is fully updated, not sure what’s going on because it’s been like this for months.
Hey folks,
Thanks for the replies.
If anyone is still experiencing this issue, please make sure to send over the current app version running on your device. Also, if you haven't already, let us know your device's make, model and OS version.
We'll be on the lookout.
Still having this issue. Super annoying when a 40 HOUR PLAYLIST plays the same 20 songs over and over again! Running version 8.9.64.456 on Iphone 11 w/IOS 17.5.1
C’mon, Spotify. Let’s get this thing fixed. I can post screen recordings if it’s helpful. Anytime I disconnect and reconnect bluetooth, the playlist reshuffles. This is especially annoying at work when I go to break and come back just to hear the same songs we just listened to for the last 3 hours.
Hey @Landisman13,
Thanks for reaching out and for sending over your details!
Sorry for the delay here - we checked with the teams backstage, and the issue in the thread was confirmed as resolved, so for this case, we would need to approach the behavior as caused by a different reason.
To make sure we cover all bases, would you mind letting us know what troubleshooting you've tried so far? This'll also help us avoid repeating steps. For example, this includes reinstalling the app, updating the device's OS, re-linking the devices.
Also, does this only occur with a specific Bluetooth speaker, or have you noticed if this happens when using another speaker or Bluetooth headphones?
Keep us posted!
Ok. So as of 9-11-2024, everything seems to be back to normal. Now I am able to disconnect and re-connect without the playlist re-shuffling. I did not try any of the suggestions listed, but if I run into anymore issues, I will give them a shot. Not sure what changed. I was experiencing this problem with two separate bluetooth plug in receivers, as well as two bluetooth speakers. Special thanks to Maria for your time.
I'm using a Galaxy s24 on Android 14, and I'm still having this issue. However, it only seems to reset my shuffle order when I connect to the Bluetooth-to-aux device in my car. I do not have this issue when I connect to my headphones. It's been this way for months and is extremely frustrating.
I have been having this issue for quite some time. When connecting to my truck’s Bluetooth system the queue will be reshuffled. Often times cutting off/changing the song that was playing prior to connecting to the truck Bluetooth.

iOS 17.6.1
Spotify App Version 8.9.76.516
Yea I'm on iOS 18 with an iPhone 13 Pro, the main issue seems to be resolved but occasionally when I connect to my car's bluetooth after using my bluetooth speaker (Sonos Roam) it will freak out and start playing my liked songs unshuffled when I was listening to another playlist at the time. Pretty frustrating.
Edit: Spotify version 8.9.76.516
Hey @Twisterman, @Kaizer_911 and @ethanovich,
Thanks for posting in the thread!
Just like @Maria mentioned, since the last issue was solved this might be caused by something else and now we have to cover our bases. Would you mind checking out her response here and let us know what troubleshooting you've done so far, as well as giving a try to the suggestion in the response in case any of them make a difference for you?
We'll be on the lookout 🙂
issue still persists:
iphone 8
ios 16.7.10
spotify version 9.0.2.419
multiple bluetooth devices:
blaupunkt bluetooth car radio, Reakosound bluetooth car radio, Aukey bt-aux adaptor
Switched between devices largely due to this issue, have clean reinstalled a couple times, have forgotten and re-paired devices. It's always whatever I use in my car - may be worth noting I don't use CarPlay.
It's done a couple of the different odd things descibed but the most common issue is for the app to go to the top of whatever playlist I'm in, then skip to the next item in the queue.
So this is just a permanent feature of the app now? Guess you all can't be bothered to actually fix it

My Question or Issue
When I connect my desktop PC to my Bose SoundTouch external speaker using Spotify Connect, Spotify will only play songs in shuffle, even if shuffle isn't turned on. However, when I disconnect from the Bose speaker and just use my PC speakers, it will play them in the correct album order.
I have tried to demonstrate what I mean in the screenshots below. The first shows a shuffled queue, even with shuffle unselected when I am connected to the Bose speaker. The second shows an unshuffled queue when I am playing through my PC speakers.
This happens with albums and playlists (including Daily Mixes). Any idea why this is happening and is there a way to stop it?
Just to add - I have tested Spotify Connect through the iPhone app, connecting to the same speaker, and don't experience the same issues. Any help/insight appreciated.
