Email changing

Hi, I have two spotify accounts account 1 is tied to my current email but it's username is a random series of numbers and letters, account 2 is tied to my old email and has the username i'd prefer to use, if i close account 1 can i then swap account 2 to my current email or would it remain unuseable.
