Thank you for suggesting using username instead of username@gmail.com. I finally got logged on.

have the same problem on my mac with newest OS Version El Capitan and current spotify version.. (Error Code: 3 , wrong user name or password)
doesn´t work in spotify app on my mac.. tried to log in with user, without @gmail.com and with complete email address, but nothing works..
not good for the image of spotify ;-( Have also performed a password reset couple of times..
Anyone a solution/ idea how to solve this issue ?

Use whatever username you chose/made when you created your account for example
say my email was spotifymusic@gmail.com that does not mean your username will neccesarily be spotifymusic
