My Question or Issue
I use Spotify Premium at work- either on my phone or my computer. Both are connected to the company network (LAN or WiFi). Today I noticed my coworker's computer showed up on my list of devices. This is disturbing. Do all devices with Spotify show up if they're on the same network, regardless of whether they're logged into the same account? MAKE IT STOP!!!
If you have an iPhone, I found a workaround outside of Spotify that seems to work. I also have the same problem in my workplace. I use the WI-FI there, but I don't want random people listening to my music.
Again, this only works for iPhone, but:
- Go to Settings
- Privacy and Security
- Local Network
- Toggle off "Spotify".
This worked for me. It prevents Spotify from showing my device to other devices in the same network. Maybe there's something similar for Android as well. Hope it helps.
Hey @SptifySuxFixIt,
Thank you for joining the conversation and welcome.
Currently, we don't have an option to hide or remove a device from the list of available devices. However, if you think other users would like this feature too, feel free to post it as an idea on out Ideas exchange board here. Before posting it, we'd recommend taking a look at our guidelines to know a bit more about the process.
If the idea gets enough kudos, it will reach the relevant team to take it into account and start a process of investigation and implementing. More info on how your feedback reaches Spotify via the Idea Exchange can be found here.
Hope this helps, If you have any additional questions don't hesitate to ask.
How has this been going on for so long this is so annoying. I am at work and the work music keeps connecting to my phone even if I disable my Bluetooth. FIX THIS ASAP
This is a really significant issue, and I'm surprised I couldn't find a news story about this in a quick Google search. If there's not a story out there, there should be so as to motivate Spotify to find a fix. At a time of incredible techological advancement, can a fix really be that hard to come up with? How is this not a privacy breach? Come on Spotify, you know about this issue and you can do better.
Since the "Join another device in the network" pop-up is displayed so prominently when I start the Spotify app, I couldn't help myself from joining a family member's session and pranking them today. I ended the prank by smugly saying "You should have disabled device sharing!". Little did I know there's no way to disable this feature, it's just people around me were more mature than myself.
Anyway, here's hoping someone picks up this issue and treats it as an oversight so we don't have to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the first report come January.
Spotify has become a running joke. They raised prices yet can't fix obvious security/privacy issues such as this. What the **bleep**

My Question or Issue
I am a student living in accommodation with 200+ other people and can see other people's devices on my "connect to device" feature, due to them being on the same network as me. Others have interrupted my listening and hijacked my devices with their music due to this feature. Why this isn't programmed to be "other devices logged into the same account" i don't know! this needs sorting as I (and i'm assuming a lot of people with this issue) don't need some drunkards 50th attempt to play "mr brightside" blairing out of my phone at 3am.
This needs a fix ASAP
Hi. No fixes to this issue yet?
I’m at home listening music from my iPad and suddenly it stops because it connects to my iPhone. !!!!!!!
I have selected few times “forget” the iPhone but it keeps reappearing.
it’s really annoying!
please fix it!
This problem is utterly unacceptable. UTTERLY and frankly, I'm furious. I simply cannot believe that you people cannot see the issues this causes. It's a disgrace.
I have been using the "send to another device" feature for quite a while. I have Spotify running on a desktop as a background app as I run another program in fullscreen that I cannot leave. Consequently, I control what is played and the volume of it on that PC from my laptop which is a superb feature.
However, what ISN'T a superb feature is that it detects every device in the house that has Spotify including all the Sky TV Boxes which have it on them and there is no way to hide from or remove these devices. So now, in the middle of the night when I have finished my work and I select on my laptop or phone to "play from this device" for some reason it has started to turn on ALL the Sky TV Boxes in everyone's bedrooms and wake them all up with whatever noise I am trying to listen to. WHAT ON EARTH DO YOU THINK YOU ARE PLAYING AT? Firstly why is it triggering other devices when I'm telling it to listen on the device I'm interacting with by why is it connecting to these things without my consent to begin with?
Why ...WHY can't I hide these devices and why can't I hide from them? Why on earth can't I decide what I connect to? This is a PRIORITY fix and looking at this thread this nonsense has been an issue for far too long.
I'm almost at a loss for words that such a gaping issue is actually a thing.
FIX IT!
Everytime I look at my phone Spotify shows me this from some rando in my dorm. This is not playing on my account or my device, but I'm sure all 40 people on my dorm wifi have been peeved by this as this person HAS BEEN PLAYING THIS NONSTOP FOR THE LAST 3 DAYS! Even if I dismiss it, Spotify pops this right back up. Seriously I should not be accessing others Spotify nor others accessing mine! It's such a fundamental concept. Spotify access should be far more restricted.
This is current issue for me when working onsite. I can see a coworker's speaker and all four of the TVs around the office that are used to display work relevant information. I DO NOT want to be able to cast to any of these TVs at any time. How is there no solution to disable my device from being visible to other Spotify users and other devices from appearing in my Spotify device list?
Give your paying customers the ability to hide devices and, more importantly, my own devices from others. It's just a toggle, let me help.
Spotify Connect [ENABLE/DISABLE]
BOOM! While we're here can you also add this next toggle?
Disable Repeat One after skipping a song. [ENABLE/DISABLE]
I truley can't wrap my, apparently smooth, brain around the defence of this one. Intended behavoir or not, don't assume your way is the only, and best, way. Whoever is pushing that upstairs needs a reality check.

If this message sounds snippy, it's because it is. These are simple features that, because they are not implemented currently, make spotify frustrating beyond repair to use. The lack of these features makes me actively look for alternative methods of obtaining music.
And really to be frank af, your community mods replying with chippy, "Make a suggestion on our forum!" makes me see red... literally. It feels disrespectful, y'all exude an air of 'our way or the highway'.
But I'm likely just a number to y'all, so thanks.
yeah hi, me again, I think it's telling that the Moderator reply has 0 likes
thats all
It is not a solution to post to idea board and no one is going to mark it as a solution.
Hi I'm having the same problems and frustrations. Has a solution been found or is Spotify still being horrible?
Considering canceling my subscription if there is no planned fix.
Although I strongly believe that Spotify should fix this on their end, and it's unbelievable that they've not made any indications that they will (no replies in a LONG time), one way to fix this is by using a VPN. Although I somehow can still connect to google cast, all other devices have disappeared for me.
Is this going to be fixed????
Some miserable kids at the gym kept interrupting my workout playlist and my workout session by hijacking the songs that were playing constantly. It is so irresponsible that you allow this functionality to persist despite all of these complaints. I even reported this behavior to the staff who was horrified that they were doing this to other people at the gym. Whoever at Spotufy allows this "feature" to continue should be ashamed of themselves.
Any joy of sorting this.. very annoying
Here in 2024.. in college and there's 40 devices showing up on my spotify on my PC. It makes Spotify lag too. This is stupid, it would be so easy to have an option to toggle this feature on and off. Where you at spotify devs?
That this is still a thing is unbelivable, it's been going on for years. How hard is it to give your customers what they ask ? We need privacy.
I am on a shared network and i can't use spotify because other people on same network keep trolling. But in return i can start playing my music on 20 different other devices THAT ARE NOT MINE. The level of unprofessionalism and non-communication from spotify regarding this topic is baffling.
And to link us to a suggestion page to vote for suggestions that never get taken seriously is like an insult on top of it. ... i mean.. are you at all interested in privacy and security ?
GIVE US THE OPTION TO HIDE OUR DEVICE ON SHARED NETWORK ALLREADY !
