Every now and then while listening to Spotify on my laptop, the Spotify app on my phone will launch and whatever song I was listening to will resume playing on there. My phone is locked when this happens. This is extremely annoying.
This started happening about 2 weeks ago. Not sure if the problem lies with the Android app or desktop client. Any idea why this is happening?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Just signed up for Spotify Premium trial last night and this issue has happened several times since this morning. Once at work -- Sexyback starts playing loudly and randomly -- very embarassing.
I have the latest PC and Android versions and this is still happening to me.

Hi,
I have just had this happen to me at work.
I am on version 8.4.5.1092.
Thanks
Danny
Aaaaand, it's back. It hadn't done it for a while, but now it's doing it again!
And I was not listening anywhere, it just STARTED playing all on its own.
Started happening with web app on chrome, to the point where I couldn't use it. I turned my phone off, galaxy S5 with latest update on both the phone and chrome for what it's worth, and I also used sign out everywhere with each step that I used here and in later steps. Changed my password twice. Uninstalled the app on my phone. Tried to listen on the web app with it uninstalled on my phone, still showed it as being the device that spotify was listening on. Reinstalled, set the mobile app to offline mode and still no results (after reading the new terms and conditions, believe it or not; I have seen much worse and agreed). Logged out of everything, installed the desktop app. Desktop app (WIN 10 Pro build 15063.413 Version 1703, all updates enabled) was able to take primary control at this point, and it shows multiple web apps to be open, though I log out of everything on my work comp when I use it, and logged out on this device. Desktop app does not display the phone. Since the desktop app is no longer resource heavy, this works as a solution for me, for now.
Considering the above, there could be an issue with the web player as a device. This could be the place that is making it difficult to reproduce on other devices, since it is not registering the fact that the web players have been logged out. If this turns out to be the case, or one of the bugs if there are multiple, I suggest removing the ability to connect devices off the web player, at the very least. The best solution would be to allow users to disable the connect device feature, whether or not the bug is fixed. Obviously, the last statement is so Spotify can stop losing subscribers over this issue, since it has been recurring for years.
Just let us disable the feature all toghether for f... sake, since you obviously are incapable of fixing it! This happens on the desktop app for me every SECOND after I try to play a song. The device just changes to Web Player.
Been a paying subscriber since 2009!!
It just happened to me too. I was watching TV and Spotify (re)started on its own and played a German Military March...
Android 7 // version 8.4.9.271 armV7
To be a bit more precise: It happened to the account/app of my partner (username: wewueu)
edit2: I found out that this behaviour was caused by the "ghost touch" bug of my new Moto G4 Plus. Spotify is not to blame.
My phone just updated to Oreo today and I started having a version of this problem. I am using the desktop app on my work computer, which is hardwired if that matters, and the app on my phone automatically opens, showing the song being played. The song itself continues to play from the computer, though. If I close the Android app, it immediately opens again. The only thing that is preventing it at the moment is the fact that I closed the desktop app, put the Android app into Offline Mode, closed that app, and then reopened the desktop app. Android app version is 8.4.17.640.
I have this same issue. Running Android Marshmallow on a Note 4. I didn't even open the app on my phone this morning because I didn't drive myself to work, but as soon as I started listening to one of my podcasts on my work computer (desktop running Windows 10), the app opened on my phone. The podcast was still playing through my earbuds connected to my computer, but I've already had a few embarrassing moments where I've had music blaring through my phone and I'm unaware because it's also playing through my selected source. My workaround, for the time being, is force stopping the app on my phone, but it would be nice if I didn't have to worry about this at all...
I am having this issue on my android phone and windows desktop. Windows 10 1607, Android 7.0, Spotify app 8.4.22.857 armV7. It is extremely annoying, and has occasionally started blasting out in my pocket at full volume when I turn my laptop on during class. I do not push play anywhere, and Spotify was paused when I put the laptop to sleep. The last time it happened was 5 minutes ago, so it definitely isn't fixed. Get your **bleep** together Spotify, why am I paying you $180/year for amateurish bugs like this that haven't been fixed in over 6 months?
Happening to me still. Using desktop and it'll open spotify connect on my phone in the background and drain my battery down.
Using the desktop app on Macbook: Version 1.0.67.582.g19436fa3
Android version: 8.4.26.770
I'll swipe the app closed in my "recent apps" function and then I'll go and start and pause a song on desktop and the app will re-open on my phone.
I have found that going in to the app settings on the phone and force closing the app works for now. It's a PITA, please figure this out, Spotify.
Happening to me. Laptop running Windows 10 - Spotify version 1.0.68.407.g6864aaaf. Android Samsung Galaxy s5 app version 8.4.28.875. PLEASE let me disable this. AND, just for extra embarrassment this "feature" automatically matches my phone volume to what I'm listening to with my headset. This can't keep happening!!!!
Same issue here, and even more strange things happening. When playing is paused, it just starts over again after half a minute. I stop it, Spotify plays again. I stop it, it starts playing again... Usually with next track in the playlist, but sometimes also random stuff. Is this 1984?
Plus the songs being played are periodically cut off after 30 secs and player then jumps to the next track.
Logged out and changed password, to no avail.
What's going on, Spotify??
Running version 1.0.69.336.g7edcc575 on a Macbook Air (10.12.6), premium account.
I just recently upgraded to premium and now I am having this issue plus now it only plays about 15 seconds of a song in the playlist. Is there another recent update that I am unaware of?
I'm having this same issue on my Samsung Gear S3 Frontier. In addition, I am also having a problem with my device streaming through LTE or any WIFI network other than my home. I've been back and forth with my carrier and Samsung with no results. My carrier is offering to switch my watch but I am now discouraged from even keeping it as well as continuing with my recent upgrade to Spotify premium.
I'm having this issue as well with my Oneplus 5T. It randomly starts playing music and sometimes skips the song to the next in queue. Even if I close the app, it will randomly boot up again and play a song. I'm running on Android 7.1.1 and my Spotify version is 8.4.38.621. Any ways to fix this issue?
