New Spotify Web Player Design [NEW 2017 DESIGN?] | FEEDBACK, IDEAS, QUESTIONS, & COMMENTS

Hello Spotify users,

This thread is for the community who have been selected to test the new web player design.

I've noticed that there is a great change probably hinting at spotify getting rid of some features and adding new ones. It is very important that the users of spotify give feedback to these new changes.

FEATURES TO CONSIDER:

- Save feature needs to be added. The save feature needs to be added back on albums and singles.

- Interactive profiles. Profiles arent interactive anymore. I seen the riddence of public playlists on profiles and what artists users are listening too. It would be nice to actually improve the profiles picture and make contacting and connecting to other users easy.

- Make accessibility to playlists and customization to playlist easier. Because of the new bulky UI it is hard to find what you're looking for.

- Make the UI less bulky-- the colors are nice, the design is nice, but it would be easier if it was efficient. The UI is too bulky, like the songs get overcrowded when listening to an album or playlist.

Any more feedback, ideas, questions, and/or comments are welcomed. If you are a visitor, it is nice to see your feedback as you will be using this UI or help develop it. 🙂

hdeuahsudasd i cant figure out what passes in the head to approve this change, i just can laugh, is ridiculous, bring back that **bleep**, nobody ever complained about that **bleep**ing UI...

**bleep**!  All the listening numbers are gone!!

I checked that immediately on everything.

Well... I can't find the song queu (I'm starting to believe there's no longer one), Last.fm is no longer working, I don't longer have the option to start playing an album, and when it finishes have the next one play automaticaly... If I want to listen the whole discography of an artist, I have to listen to an awful randomizer... Spotify web is the only way I can use this service... Nor my PC neither my smartphone support the app, so I either use this useless version, or I start to listen to music though youtube.

Garbage...

PS: No radio feature? LOL. You are a big joke.

There isn't really any intuitive playlist management which has me scratching my head. How do you rename a playlist? Or delete them? Using browser version for work.

To add to this, it actually paired automatically with my phone and started blasting music from my phone in my office. Embarassing, but I was able to fix easily once I figured out what was going on.

I think you guys are a bit delayed, Apr 1st was 10 days ago. So now please end the joke and bring the old player back. This is ridiculous.

Last.fm scrobbling is gone.

Adding songs to my play queue is gone.

Those were my 2 favorite things in the old web interface.  While the old interface had room for improvement the changes being made are actually really poor ones.  Features that people actually like have been removed.

And, as others have said, there is a tremendous amount of wasted space and inefficiency.  The areas that COULD have been improved on are, if anything worse, not better.

So 2 strikes against the new interface already...  Removing features people want and making the UI even more clunky and inefficient than it already was.

How to get back the old UI in Spotify.

Purpose: to set a specific user-agent-string for Spotify's old url play.spotify.com, but keep all other sites on default.

FIREFOX:
Download the addon UAControl.
Allow restart to activate UAControl first.

Left-click on the icon, and select "UAControl options..."

Click on "Add site" and write:  play.spotify.com
In "Action", click on radio-button "Custom" and write: Googlebot/2.1; + http://www.google.com/bot.html

Click on "Ok"

The icon on UAControl turns to green when active, otherwise it's gray.

CHROME:
Download User-Agent Switcher for Google

Right-click on the icon, select Alternative

In User-Agents map:
Under "Group", choose Google Chrome
Under "User_Agents", click on the "New User-Agent" button
In the "Name" field, write: play.spotify.com
In the "User-Agent" field, write: Googlebot/2.1; + http://www.google.com/bot.html
Click on "Save"

Finally, make sure correct User-Agent are in use by left-click on the icon and select Chrome on Windows, Mac, or other OS you use.
Tick in the box "Remember last used User-Agent at startup."

In case you still are redirected to "new" Spotify, try clear the cache in Firefox alt. Chrome and restart.

Enjoy!

I am now also using a UA spoof on Firefox, although a different one, User-Agent Switcher. The revived version of it. Works like a charm.

O **bleep** I am going to use open.spotify for:
Lacking the ability to queue songs whatsoever?
Incredibly stupid UI. What's the point of seeing only 10 songs instead of the former 25? And the font size? We are not blind???
The volume bar. I set it to where I want it to be and it goes back to max? Do I have to manipulate the system tray volume control because Spotify fails to have an operating one?
The UI is still beyond hideous. I am using a web browser on a **bleep**ing COMPUTER, not a smartphone. I don't need those oversized tiles. I need functionality.
...And most importantly: Songs didn't play. Not a single one. Not even playlists. Really, man?

I understand pausing the track with spacebar is also gone? Didn't get to test it because I heard no music.

Long live the king.... ._.

I can only accept 2 things as good at this upgrade of the new player, one is that consumes less ram(a lot less than the older) and the music player timer is back.

Just for your info the thing with the Agent, UAC etc. it will not last for ever, it is a matter of time to permanently delete the old player from their servers.

Now that i have 3 months free i will checking the player for the playback issues and missing functions... i don't give a **bleep** about the interface... i would not date it, i'll use it to listen music so screw it. The only matters are the playback issues and the streams the artists not get paid i still receiving statistics in xml format from distributors that uses a combinations of APIs to get stats and the artists streams from the day the new player forced dropped 80% so the really **bleep**ed them up, you have to pay what you didn't count or the Swedish Electronic Fraud/Abuse/Piracy offices will have soon a lot of work to do for you. Then if you complete your work and found a path with justice i will consider it if i will pay again.

Additionally, I can't seem to connect to my fellow users that I "follow."

I am a radio DJ, and each week, my co-host posts our playlist on Spotify. I need to go look at one of our old ones, but I can't seem to connect to users at all. I can find it on my ""outdated"" version of the desktop app.

Also, playlist durations are VERY important for what I do. I have to, now, open a time calculator to make sure I don't overbook for my radio show.

Also, say someone say this was more intuitive. I could not disagree more, unless by "intuitive" you mean "looks-modern."

I thinks this is way harder to use. Way more steps to get to older albums.

I miss suscription emails, but release radar is a reasonable substitute. That was gone for a while (for some reason) but I am glad it's back.

No Last.fm support anymore. Big dislike.

Dear all,

I would like to file a complaint regarding the new Web Player.

I tend to be really constructive, but the new GUI really is a pain in the..

I use Spotify mostly at work so I am not allowed to install a local application.

The new GUI removes too many helpful things such as column what has been stared in a playlist. (I always listened to the new releases on Friday and my weekly mixes on Monday, then starred what I liked and after verifying I really like the suggested songs by listening to them again, I added them to my central playlist.)

Additionally, the application really wastes space and displays far too little songs. My favorite playlist has about 500 songs and user experience is pretty horrible with the new big icons - I do not need my co-works sitting 10 meters behind me to read the interface.

This **bleep**ty minimalistic web player really makes me consider alternatives, since that was the way I used Spotify the majority.

I hope you revert those frustrating changes ASAP or at least provide the old GUI as an alternative to the new version.
Otherwise I am fairly sure you will lose customers to competitors providing better web players.

Best regards

What I don't understand is that this new version started getting pushed to users in beta format as far back as December (if you look at the dates on these comments) and the complaints have been consistent the entire time yet those complaints were never addressed and the deficiencies mentioned by people when it was still in beta appeared in the new web player to much of the rest of us today.

To whichever Spotify employees actually read this... if you've created a place for people to discuss changes to your software, your web player, etc. and then don't acknowledge them or don't take the complaints/criticisms into consideration, what is the point of having these forums?  Is it merely to create the illusion that you are paying attention?

I have read through several pages of comments/complaints about it and they have been consistent going back to last December... So why are/were issues that were being mentioned repeatedly completely ignored/disregarded when this was rolled out to the rest of us?

I'm not sure which is the bigger customer service failure... this new web player or the fact that issues that were mentioned by users in beta appear to have been completely ignored.

I am fully aware that this workaround with UA spoof will not be a permanent thing, and no, I won't date the GUI of any application, but this thing lacks key features. Seriously, no queuing?

And this wonky volume slider makes me really cautious...

I told @SpotifyCares about this and they said they'll 'pass it on to the right folks'.

Bring back the old player. This version sucks buffalo **bleep**!

The object of updating something is to make better, and obviously you missed badly on this version.

wow that many???  and they do not care about that?

and also, the number of the songs played in the artist section.

also, the singers latest release is shown as the latest album. but we do not see the latest single as latest release.

I feel disrespected by being "picked" for the new UI and won't be supporting Spotify in any way anymore. Especially after they've ignored EVERYONE who was blessed by this wonderful feature. Idk at least buy the 5 year olds that do your webdesign a popsicle or something from the money you got from all the people going premium because they got sick of sometimes really REALLY wanting to hear a certain song amirite.
