My Question or Issue

I'm using Spotify version 1.2.26.1187.g36b715a1 on Windows 11 Pro (the app provided from the Microsoft Store).

I'm finding that when I wake my PC from Sleep mode, the Spotify Home page doesn't load...it just shows grey boxes with the loading animation.  If I close the app and re-launch it, then the Home page loads just fine.  Even though the Home page doesn't load, Spotify will continue to play music no problem.

The app is indeed on-line (and my PC is connected to the internet; web sites are loading no problem).  Any ideas?  I've only run into this issue starting in the past few weeks, perhaps a bug?

Hey @Afrikan,

Thanks for posting here and for the info shared.

As mentioned before in this thread, we'd recommend clearing any entries which contain Spotify from the host files on your computer by following the instructions in this post. Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

If the above doesn't do the trick, would you mind trying running the app in Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking to rule out any issues with your default Windows settings and basic device drivers? You can follow this guide to do it.

On another note, it'd be really helpful if you could double-check if you could replicate this behavior on the web player

Lastly, and just to confirm, do you use a VPN? Keep in mind Spotify doesn't officially support VPN. This means that issues with the app while using VPN are expected behavior. If yes, try switching it off.

So it looks like the Spotify App updated to Spotify v.1.2.29.605.g66a43ceb automatically on Jan 24 (4 days ago).  I've been keeping an eye on it the past few days and this issue seems to be fixed for me now!

I didn't have to clear any caches, etc. or reset and preferences, I just let it auto update from the Microsoft Store.  I think I may be in the clear, but I'll update if I have issues again. 🙂

That's great to hear, @francisw19 and thanks for sharing the info with us 🙂

Should the issue resurface or you need help with anything else, the Community's here for you!

Cheers.

After I wake up the device from sleep the Spotify Desktop app breaks. No search results show up, front page turns into infinite, animated, loading skeleton, "Something went wrong" errors appear at some places. Despite this, music still plays, can be skipped, paused and the queue shows up correctly. A complete restart of the app is required to get it back to work.

This is the case for both Mac and Windows clients, reporting for Mac as I have the biggest issue with it when simply closing the lid.

Same here. Every time I wake my Windows 11 computer from sleep, I have to close and relaunch  Spotify to get it to work properly.

I have the same version and as Francisw19 and the problem persists for me. I propose that this is an underreported widespread issue. It has been happening for a very long time. four years according to another forum thread. It would be great to hear that Spotify is actively working on this rather than asking forum users to debug it

Indeed, instead of badgering users who reported the issue on a CLEAN OS install to go clean their stock hosts files (which is already clean and virtually nobody ever touches it anyway or even knows about it) you could, like, you know, get some dev to try and repro using the versions mentioned here? What would be the odds of multiple independent people apparently getting some hosts entry at the same time a new Spotify version is pushed and then getting the same issue only on resume? I know you probably have some weird CS script to go through but if you knew anything about networking you'd know that the suggestion doesn't even make any sense and the issue would be apparent without having to sleep the machine if it actually were related to a hosts entry.

More useful would be a debug logging feature so we could supply you with some actual information when it's happening. Even if it's hidden behind users having to stand on their head and chant some mantra during a full moon, it's going to be much better than just having a black box (literally in this case) and relying on users with wildly varying technical skills to touch parts of their systems they're not supposed to touch.

A lot of people are used to software randomly malfunctioning nowadays, also a staggering amount of people wouldn't even know how to get to these forums to report on it, and of the people that do, a part will avoid cluttering the thread with "yes, me too, with exactly the same version as that person". Oh and there's a big part that already know how helpful these threads generally are so why bother spending any time? So you can be sure it's underreported.

I did a clean install of the latest version using the Microsoft store instead of downloading it from the Spotify site. It seemed to fix it for a while but now it's started happening again. Nothing that's been suggested has actually fixed it for me unfortunately.

It seems I have spoken too soon, I'm seeing the Home Page loading issue again.  It was working fine for a few days after the update to the newest version.  But I'm not sure what changed.  I can confirm there were absolutely no changes to my PC, it's just the same issue again.

Just chiming in to say this is happening to me too.

Same Issue here. Always after waking up from sleep. Tried Windows and direct from Spotify versions, cleared the cache. Also, I noticed Spotify will wake my PC up randomly!

Hey there folks,

Thanks for reaching out in this thread!

So that we can investigate this issue further with our teams, could you send us the following details?

  • Make & model of your device.
  • Current Windows OS version.
  • Spotify version.
  • The log file from the Spotify app. You can check the steps on how to do it in the Top Answer here.

Many thanks! We'll keep an eye out for your replies.

Same as before, I'm still on a Windows 10 desktop PC, latest version of Windows 10, latest version of Spotify. I'd send you a log file but cutting and pasting the commands from the thread you linked into command prompt just comes back with an error that says "was unexpected at this time" lol.

Same here with Windows 11 and the store version of Spotify. Works when i shut down the app and start it again, but after having the computer sleep/be on for a day or so it fails to load the homescreen or search or anything.

Make & model of your device.:

self built so I guess these:
- 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-13600K 3.50 GHz

- 32gb ram.

-  64 bit

- nvidia geforce rtx 4060 ti

  • Current Windows OS version.: Windows 11 Home 22631.3085 Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22684.1000.0
  • Spotify version.: Spotify – Windows (64-bittinen) 1.2.30.1135.g02fef27a
  • The log file from the Spotify app. You can check the steps on how to do it in the Top Answer here.: Top response just gives me "was unexpected at this time." on the command line.

Hey folks,

Apologies for the confusion.

Here are the correct steps depending on your OS version. Make sure that Spotify is closed before running the command (if needed, close all Spotify processes from Task Manager).

Fetching logs via the command line

Mac:

# Run this command in Terminal:

open /Applications/Spotify.app --args --log-file=/Users/"$USER"/spotify.log

Windows Store Client:

Run the below commands in a cmd prompt. You can use WinKey + R and type "cmd" to launch it.

start Spotify.exe --log-file="%USERPROFILE%\Documents\spotify.log"

Windows Non-Store (Web Installer) Client:

start "%APPDATA%\Spotify\Spotify.exe" --log-file="%USERPROFILE%\Documents\spotify.log"

Fetching logs from the standard file paths

Standard path for log files on Mac:

# Run this command in terminal to open the logs directory in Finder

open ~/Library/Caches/com.spotify.client/Logs

Standard path for log files on Windows:

Windows Store Client:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Packages\SpotifyAB.SpotifyMusic_zpdnekdrzrea0\LocalCache\Spotify\Logs

Windows Non-store (Web Installer) Client:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Spotify\Logs

Cheers!

Same thing with version 1.2.30.1135.g02fef27a for macOS (Apple Silicon).  Video of trying to search and viewing the homepage attached.

This has been happening for at least a month, is always when laptop comes out of Sleep, is in any location on any network, and is only fixed by a restart of the app.

My Question or Issue

If I suspend my Windows 11 system whith Spotify open. When I resume the system, Spotify is hanged, apparently does not reconnect correctly. I have to close & reopen the whole application. In the past I used to do a full reload and it worked but now the option is gone.

Yes, this fixes it for me. What's strange is that if I uninstall Spotify and reinstall, it works for a while, but after a few restarts, it gets into this state. I had to find a way to log out to be able to get to the disable hardware acceleration button, but it all looks good, for now. I'm on an Intel Iris Xe GPU on a Dell laptop.

Thank Mihail. These instructions actually worked, and I've attached the log file it made.

This bug is pretty annoying, hopefully this helps fixing it.

Hey @miquelfa,

Welcome to the Community!

If you haven't already, could you give the app a clean reinstall as it can help resolve different issues with its performance? It's different than a basic one, as it also clears the corrupted cache and you can follow the steps in this article

On another note, does it make any difference with a different Internet connection? You can restart your router if you're using one or even try with mobile data via hotspot if that's possible.

Keep us posted.
