Can't log in to my Windows App, getting "Illegal scope" when forwarded to the website

I did a clean re-install of Spotify because I had issues with it not being able to play songs at all, after that - BAM, I can't physically log in anymore!

My Question or Issue

Spotify was working fine until I booted the laptop up earlier. The issues started whereby songs would no longer play (The songs in a playlist all of a sudden no longer displayed the album/single images), Unable to search for any artists, unable to open the home page, unable to view my profile. No idea what guys have done, but you have buggered it up too much this time.

I restarted the app - No change

I cleared the cache and restarted the app - no change

I uninstalled the app and reinstalled a new version of the app and now I am unable to log in on the desktop version, although I can log in and use the Web Version. When I click on the URL Link when opening the desktop version to log in to my account, the browser page displays "Illegal Scope" - What is going on?

I managed to install a previous version of Spotify and I am now able to log in OK. I will wait and see if it updates to the latest version and repeats playing up....

Spotify doesn't care, the problem has been around for a very long time, and it still hasn't been fixed, no wonder people are leaving for Apple Music

Click on the settings and change it to no proxy, it should work

“No proxy” doesn't work for me either.
Why is there no response from Spotify?
Ultimately, it's a paid service, so it should be easier to use.

Already tried this setup, and doesn't work.

The best thing to do is leave Spotify, because its CEO is investing in generative AI to replace artists, because he believes his customers are too stupid to make a difference, invests in the military, pays artists very poorly, and has ties to the Israeli government.
Apple Music works everywhere, even on Android; it's a better and hassle-free platform, or Qobuz.

In short, you should leave/boycott Spotify.

where did you find older version?

I’m currently getting this error

getting the same error, no VPN or anything like that

Hey folks,

Apologies for the radio silence here!

We checked backstage with the team and this issue should be fixed. If you've not already done this, please make sure that you're using the newest version of the Spotify app on desktop, as well as to update your browser(s).

If you're unable to update the app, here's the guide for a clean reinstall

Keep us posted.

On the home page of spotify app there is a setting option select that then there will be proxy which include HTTP and others just select no proxy and app will restart. Then it will again ask for login, for me it had option to login via QR code and used my mobile and boom Im logged in .

This is still happening. I can log into the accounts page just fine. But the OAuth with the local App does not grant the scopes.

Have you tried updating Windows? For me that solved the issue. I went to Windows Update > Optional updates and installed all pending non-driver updates (I think specifically it was whatever the newest cumulative update was available, and it didn't come back.

I am not using Windows but rather Ubuntu.

Turns out spotify seems to be blocking my IP address. If I use a hotspot from my phone everything works.
