My Question or Issue

This has been occurring on and off for some time. I have contacted Twitter support before, but this might be better. I have again begun experiencing playing for a period of time (usually about 30-45 minutes), and then sudden, loud static occurs where the soft still places in the back. When I stop the song and restart it, it will continue static. However, if I change the volume in the Spotify app, it stops. That said, the audio volume is affected when I change it back to the original volume in the app it was set at. Additionally, when the next song plays, it often shows it is playing, but no sound comes out at the set volume in the app. When I increase the volume, it becomes audible again, but static often occurs. Often, I have to adjust both the app and computer volume settings.

Here's what I have done to troubleshoot:

  • Adjusting different settings for volume from low quality to high.
  • Closing and reopening the app after the static
  • Using the Task Manager to shut down any background operations after closing the app
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled the app, hoping there was an update.

This has not stopped the issue. I have provided screen captures of my current settings after the reinstall. However, because of their size, I cannot upload videos of the behavior.

Hi there @ForceRunner,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community!

First up, we appreciate your detailed message. We'd just liked to gather more info:

  • Does this happen on a device in particular?
  • If you haven't, checked if it happens from a different device and the Web Player.
  • Have you tried logging in with a different account to check if something changes. It can be a relative or friend's account.
  • Did you notice if this starting happening recently or after a recent update or change?

Lastly, we understand you were not able to attach the video, however, it'd be really helpful if we can see exactly how the app behaves. You can try compressing the video and  attach it in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can visualize it.

We'll be on the lookout!

Hello Susan,

Thanks for the reply and Iโ€™ve answered your questions in order:

  • It only occurs on the windows desktop app. I have not experienced it via mobile or through Alexa devices.
  • I did use the web app briefly (approximately 15 minutes) but usually the issues donโ€™t occur until about 30-45 minutes into playing.
  • I have not tried it with another persons account.
  • There have been no updates to the app or computer. This is the first time it has happened in about 6 months. The only difference in use is I recently used an HDMI connection to play music during a presentation.

Unfortunately, I have deleted the recordings but can try to recover them when Iโ€™m back at my laptop.

Thank you for your help!

Lance

Hi @ForceRunner,

Thanks for the info.

Could you try and reinstall your audio drivers? When those get corrupted, it can cause a variety of issues, including something similar to what you have. Try that and let us know how it goes.

If the issue persists afterwards, please try and recover the recordings or make new ones, that will definitely be helpful. Additionally, please let us know the following:

  • Do you remember roughly when this started happening? Did this coincide with an update to the app or Windows or a change of hardware?
  • How often does it happen? Is it every time you use the app or is it sporadic? Is there any specific event in the app that triggers it or is it just a matter of time spent playing?
  • Do you use some sort of external soundcard or similar? If so, does the issue occur without it?

Let us know how it goes.

Hello Joan,

I have uninstalled and reinstalled all of my drivers, and the static is still occurring. I have also answered your questions in order below:

It still plays as expected, without static, when playing directly from my phone or via smart device (i.e., Alexa).

Thank you for your ongoing assistance.
