[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

I bought an HomePod as it integrates extremely well with my home ecosystem.

I was absolutely shocked when I discovered that Spotify is not natively supported (I don’t consider streaming via AirPlay as a viable solution).

Honestly, the solution is easy. I will switch to Apple Music. Too bad as I had a good experience with Spotify, but this is a dealbreaker for me

When will this be done?

Especially crazy when you consider that this feature has been available via Siri in the car for years already.

First off, I would like to explain that I do not mean AirPlay 2 support. I mean native support of Spotify on the Apple HomePod and the HomePod mini. This would entail being able to ask the HomePod mini to play music, and it directly accessing it from Spotify.

Many submissions have come forth relating to this topic and each one has either not been fulfilled or misidentified as to the nature of the request.

Here is information directly from Apple about what I’m talking about: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2020/10061

Apple also has conveniently provided a form to help you request integration with the HomePod:

https://developer.apple.com/contact/request/sirikit-media-intent-for-homepod

There was a post on the forum that is marked as a live idea that claims full integration has been achieved, but the poster themselves had acknowledged that AirPlay 2 support, while a positive addition, was not accomplishing what they had specifically asked for in the post. I think it is time for Spotify to set things right. Here is the aforementioned post: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/iOS-Implement-Native-HomePod-Support/idi-p/4985214

Sorry Spotify, you already lost me. A paying customer since 2014, 8 yrs together, but all comes to an end.

I have several homepods at home. All you had to do was to implement support. First I blamed Apple, but this is long gone.

All you focus on are podcast. I can't event choose not to see them in the app. I want music, not podcasts. Remember? That's what you started with. In the meantime, Apple music got a lot better and left you eating dust.

Bye.

I noticed that through the mobile app the same concept can be applied to alexa speakers. Is there any hope to this coming to homepods or is this idea dead? It seems like there are plenty of votes to justify it.

three to go to hit 5000. But I doubt Mr Ek will notice.

We bought two home pods recently and I was shocked there is still just the air play function. wth… it’s 2022 and we want to buy more of the home pods so we will switch to Apple Music with two accounts soon.
I am a UX Designer and this is an absolute no go. You are loosing a huge group of customers because of this. This should have been implemented years ago… right when Apple made it possible.

the fact you are obviously focusing on Podcasts and not on music anymore is sad. You claim to be all about your customers and their identity but you don’t  make your app suitable for a huge variety of users, for example let them decide what they wanna see on their app interface or arranging the UI and deleting the Podcast section if they want.
You must focus on the individuality of your users like you advertise it and celebrate their individuality. And you must integrate long awaited functions like the home pod integration that are still missing.

it‘s ridiculous Spotify hasn’t done anything here for years.
