[Hardware] The Spotify Player

I would like Spotify to develop a (touchscreen if possible) - Hifi system machine with display

I am sick of having my laptop on all day just to play Spotify - or my phone

Please build a product - I can log into Spotify on and leave that on all day - without never needing my laptop or phone again

To give my other devices a rest - I know there are radio's that have 'Spotify connect" on it but the ones I saw require phone connection and internet connection etc unless anyone can comment and recommend something - i do not believe this has been done yet and i hope Spotify or some company capable of creating this does it - cos i think it could be a gold mine for those - worried about the battery life of their devices that shouldn't be used as a cd player in 2020

I would love one that can download my 3k song playlists and store that on it and just play that all night and day etc - so it will need a good amount of storage

Look forward to your replies and hopefully you vote it up - so i can get an official reply

Car Thing would be a great addition to my desk if I could use it with my PC app. Currently I am using my phone with a USB C to audio jack adapter to make this work but it would be a lot better and a big selling point if it was compatible with other devices in the Spotify Connect ecosystem, as I have several Spotify compatible devices around the house, garage, and work.  Just as Sirius had dockable players that you could move between the car, work, and home. You have the userbase, and the hardware, just update the software. Maybe the next version can have wifi too.

I absolutely agree with this. One of the reasons I purchased a Car thing was that I thought I would be able to use it in the home as well as in the car. I usually play music from Spotify Desktop on my PC while at home but as it is now the connect feature only works to a degree. I can manually choose the PC as the output while music is already playing from my phone and Car thing, but the moment I press pause and then press play from the Car thing's interface the music will switch from the PC back to the phone. I think it would be a great addition to be able to use Car thing in multiple configurations such as what I and OP describe.

House thing, like the car thing.

The idea is to have a dedicated "mini tablet" for Spotify. It could have features like auto dim & auto sleep among other things. I would hope to have at least BT, 3.5mm and digital optical would be nice. It would be a sweet device to have next to your stereo or to bring out and hook up to your sound system during parties, making guests' song requests easier than ever.

Seriously, I want this. I'd pay many moneys for this. I know I know, just get a tablet, but it's not the same. Having something specifically for Spotify that I can always walk up to, tap on it, tap a song/playlist and walk away. While the car thing is mainly targeted at people who don't already own updated radios the house thing wouldnt be aiming to solve a problem like that. It would just be a major convenience.

thanks for reading and I hope you can agree that, a house thing is the next logical move.

+1 on the idea

I bought this with the intention of using it in my home - I’m planning on making it a bathroom media control but the fact I’ll need to connect it to my phone first to connect it to my speakers means it’s more for fun than for functionality.

I bought it anyway because I’m techy and I love Spotify - but all of these comments are right. To make a serious play in hardware, a broader spectrum of uses would be smart. The car thing is ergonomic and sleek - it’s a smartly priced way to put visual Spotify control anywhere you want in the home.

Best part, barely anything needs to change - just put a Bluetooth transceiver in it - maybe could go as far an an aux too - and boom - you just made your product applicable to 2X consumers. Getting into the car is smart - but getting into the home is just as important - you’ve got something here. Just needs a small upgrade.

Imagine car thing mounted in your kitchen for home music control - one in your bathroom, bedroom etc. Basically car thing could be the control for media zones - and there really isn’t much of a screen alternative to it yet. Better to be sooner in this then later in my opinion. I hope how it is now will still be fun in my home!
