[iOS] Airplay 2 Support for iOS

New idea for earlier closed ideas:

Experiencing delay with Spotify when streaming to multiple Airplay 2 devices. Works with Apple Music

Updated on 2021-08-07

Hello everyone,

We apologize for any confusion we have caused. To clarify, Spotify will support Airplay 2. Please continue to use this thread to add your votes and comments.

We’ll post updates when they become available.

Guys this is frankly unacceptable.

Apologies mean nothing.  We want to see progress, fast.

Spotify will not do anything about this until it starts becoming a liability. They said nothing for years, until it got mentioned in the media. Then they came up with whatever that "explanation" was that then got retracted. After that: silence. It's not that they don't know about this issue – they ignore it willingly.

The only way this will change the situation to gain attention. Every review of an Airplay 2 device (speaker/soundbar/tv etc) should have an asterisk that it won't work with Spotify, for example. That would turn up the heat both from consumers and hardware manufacturers. So guys, mail your local tech journalist. Do it. Now!

Really rather not switch to Apple Music. Homepod/Air Play 2 support is a must. Putting in my 0.02$ to make sure this is implemented. Thanks.

How hard is it to implement guys?

I already activated the Apple Music trial and transferred my music, and the native support is AMAZING. Please catch up, it’s starting to get embarrassing.

Oh my god guys.

Are you just hiring interns to do your programming? What is it going to take to get you guys to add this functionality????

Seriously. You guys are totally incompetent.

It seems that Spotify would rather lose customers than upgrade to this "new" technology called AirPlay2

Spotify is probably doing the math right now, and the people upset by the lack of Airplay 2 support are in a very small minority. They could turn this feature on within a week if it was a priority. There are a few options worth investigating 1). cancel Spotify and move to Apple Music 2). Apple Music is adding a "voice only" plan very soon for $4.99 instead of $9.99. It makes the extra spend more palatable 3). Look into offers from your cell provider. Verizon offers Apple Music bundled with some plans for free and 6 months free with others.

It took Spotify months and months to add Apple TV airplay support for video on their platform, and that was with the weight of Joe Rogan's following pushing the initiative. I'm not holding my breath on support for the Homepod, and I'll probably just cancel my Spotify account within the next year once my 6 months free of Apple Music runs its course.

Apple brings the Music Voice plan now for $4.99.

I am waiting since MONTHS for Spotify to support my Homepod minis.

If they don't relase an update within the next two weeks I will cancel my subscription and move on to Apple Music HD.

I was waiting so patiently because I wanted to support Spotify, but this is simply childish politics.

They complain that apple locks them out, then they get an API and they refuse to use it.

Reading this is baffling, I’ve been with Spotify since 2010 and do not want to switch but reading this thread made me sign up for Apple Music. It’ll be a pain to get all my music across but at least I’ll work properly.

I don’t want to switch but there’s just nothing being done about it.

Not sure what's going on with the updates, but since a few days I've been able to AirPlay (from my iPhone) to both my Apple TV 4K and HomePod Mini simultaneously. I always thought multi speaker support was reserved for AirPlay 2 only?

When trying to play to both my Apple TV and HomePod Mini through the Apple TV Spotify app it doesn't work, by the way.
