[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

How hard is it to add Spotify to the HomePod Media options under Home Settings / People so you can ask Siri to play music from the HomePod without having to access your phone to then play the music to then have to select the HomePod so it can stream it. Absolutely ridiculous! Please get this feature added!

Long time Spotify user here. It’s been awhile since I’ve been tracking this feature. Could we please have an update on when we can get seamless integration? At this point it’s just much easier to switch to Apple Music, but I’ve built up my playlist here and would love to stay but I listen all day through HomePod and it’s annoying to not be able to just ask Siri to play something on Spotify on a whim. We are waiting Spotify!

Stop crying about your Spotify playlist. Just use this site and transfer your spotify playlist to Apple Music https://soundiiz.com/tutorial/spotify-to-apple-music

If you really want Spotify on homepod, switch to Apple Music, otherwise keep quiet

@petrutaraul lol Trying to tell people that understandably want Spotify to be supported natively on the Homepod on a 120+ page thread to "keep quiet". Go home, you're drunk 🤦🏽‍

petrutaraul

You didn't read my comment very well. I think that you are the drunk one. I said that people who aren't canceling their spotify subscription to actually make a difference are the ones who should stop posting comments hoping thst something will change. And I don't drink alcohol. Thanks

mrsky

You didn't write it very well. Nobody cares if you think it's not good enough. They don't need to be quiet. Plenty of people have canceled over this and other issues. Has that made a difference? And the drunk comment isn't literal. It means that you're acting silly.

petrutaraul

I also don't care about your comment. It was my opinion. Thanks

OK so seriously guys what the **bleep** is going on here?!  It's about to be May-2022, Apple added support for 3rd-party music services over TWO YEARS AGO now, other streaming services have added support, and yet still Spotify the #1 streaming music service in the freaking world fails to implement native HomePod support?

Seriously though like what gives, what possible technical hurdle or otherwise is preventing native support from happening? Because if there isn't a technical hurdle to implementation then this should've happened ~1.5yrs ago!!  Why don't you maybe pull some dev resources away from constantly unnecessarily updating the apps UI, and focus on features/functionality like this that your users ACTUALLY want/desperately need!

I've been a Spotify user forever, I joined less than a year after the service launched.  In all that time even w/ the early bugs and everything I've never considered switching services.  But now for the 1st time ever I'm seriously considering going over to Apple Music solely because of the lack of this functionality!  Please get it together and make this happen ASAP.

Respectfully,

A long-time customer and avid user

I am not sure why Spotify does not want to implement this feature. I cannot believe that they still do not understand the difference between native support and Airplay. Of course, implementing new features binds resources. However, it would be in the interest of the shareholders to expand the platform support instead of focusing so much on content creation. Spotify seems to fall in the Netflix trap.
