Playback issues: Songs going silent on Android app

We've received reports from Android users that the progress bar of a song keeps moving but there's no sound coming out. When the app is restarted, the progress bar goes back to the point where the song went silent.

Some users noticed that the issue doesn't occur when the features below are toggled off:

• Gapless playback - found in the app's Settings > Playback
• Equalizer - also found in Settings > Playback

I have an Apple iPhone 13 Max Pro. This happens to me constantly, mostly if I’m listening to a podcast.

This happens to me every day.

A song finishes but the next doesn´t start. The clock continues to count time on the first song.

This happens on bluetooth headphones and using Spotify connect.

I have uppdated Spotify, re-installed it and restarted the phone but without any improvement.

Regardless of if I am using Headphones or Bluetooth every few songs a song will be silent. Restarting that song doesn't necessarily fix it first time. I have even had it where I skip the song, the next song starts playing, I skip backwards and it's silent still, then I skip back to start again and it played.

This is very consistent for me. I am a software engineer, please reach out to me if I can help in anyway.

I know Sony is a popular manufacturer of Android phones but there are plenty others there. With that in mind, it seems to be that Sony phones ar overrepresented in this thread among those who reported problems. Is there something Sony specific that reproduces these problems?

Currently on my computer. Having the same issue on my phone which is the S23+.

Anytime I try and play a song without having it on repeat it just stops completely. It won't even go to the next song like it used to.

It happens even if i don't have my earbuds connected. I have tried clearing the cache, uninstalling, reinstalling, logging out. I even changed my payment method just incase.

I am running 8.9.16.563 I just updated it today.

I am also having this issue on my Sony Xperia 10 IV with Android 14. My Spotify version is 8.9.16.593

This occurs both when I am playing from my phone speakers and when I am using corded headphones or speakers, I can't say for sure if it happens when playing via Bluetooth because I rarely use it. I have tried restarting my phone, restarting the app, and reinstalling the app before troubleshooting led me to this page. 

I believe it only happens when my phone is locked or Spotify is playing in the background while I am using other apps, but I very rarely sit with Spotify open so I can't be completely sure about this. This has been ongoing for probably a couple of months at this point. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all and sometimes it's very frequent. Just a few minutes ago it happened probably every 10-30 seconds through an entire song after which I gave up and turned my music off.

The song will become silent within 2 minutes of playback, but the progress bar of the song will continue to flow.

This happens during song playback/Podcast.

I am also having this issue on my galaxy s23 on Android 14.

Has been an issue both when listening on phone and when using Bluetooth headphones and Bluetooth speakers

Have cleared cache and reinstalled app.

My Question or Issue

When I listen to music sometimes the song just goes silent. The bar keeps moving but no sound is coming out. When I go back to the app and pause and play it returns to the position before it went silent. 

I've uninstalled the app, checked for updates and cleared my cache. I've checked with different headphones and the same thing happens. I even have factory reset my phone. The problem is still there. I have no issue with sound from other apps. How do I stop this ?

I'm running the latest version of Android on a pixel 8 Pro and the latest version of Spotify.

Almost every time I get in my car podcasts will not play and I have to clear the cache for the app, Force stop it and restart it to get the podcast to play. 

This is with my phone connected over Bluetooth. No kind of Android auto or anything like that. 

This is different than this issue but sounds similar and I don't see how to file a new issue
