Playback issues related to the next song in the queue

We received reports that upon attempting to play a song that's been added to the queue manually (via the Add to queue option), the playback stops completely and the play buttons on the Now Playing View become greyed out, thus preventing advancing to the next track.

Hey there, folks,

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this issue.

We're happy to announce that the queue playback should now be functioning properly for everyone running app version 9.0.8 (iOS and Android) and 1.2.53.440 (desktop). If you don't see the update on your end just yet, rest assured it's coming your way in the next couple of days.

To ensure you're running the latest version of Spotify available, it's worth performing a clean reinstall of the app.

If you're still having trouble with playback or anything else, you can post a new thread in the relevant Help board here.

Cheers 🤘

My Question or Issue

  • When I open the app, and try to play a playlist, it plays the first song, then goes to an ad. The advert plays. But it freezes once over. It isn't paused, the timer doesn't go over the time of the advert (eg 30s out of 30s) And I cant skip onto the next song. I have tried playing a different playlist after refreshing the app. Similar thing happens. The first song plays, but the second song is frozen. I can't skip onto the next song either. This is happening on both my devices, an Apple iPad (2019 model) and Samsung Phone (A22) Ive tried everything I can to fix this. I've been through the FAQs and other posts. Nothing is working. Is this a common issue?

My Question or Issue

When a track ends, the next one doesn't start.

I have exact same problem on Android, and has been happening for about 1 week now.  Rebooted phone, reinstalled Spotify but doesnt work.  What i did find worked temporarily was to use Spotify via web browser on my Windows laptop, then my Android phone worked ok.  But a day or so later it is back to not working again.

After it plays one song another songs comes up in the queue , and it doesn't play at all. And I can't skip the song either.

I just noticed something odd.  I posted an explanation of how to work around this problem back on page 13 of this discussion.  The moderators saw fit to put a link to the post into the descriptive box that appears at the top of each page of this thread.  What caught my eye was these black splotches in the images I posted.  I didn't put those there.  Somebody went to the trouble of updating my images in an attempt to . . . I don't know.  Protect my privacy?  They put the black splotches over my user name.  That seems kind of pointless since my user name appears at the top of my post where anybody can see it, same as any other post in this discussion.  I'm not complaining, just a bit bemused.

Wild Willy has a solution that seems to work. Don't use the 'Add to Queue'  menu option as that is BROKEN. Instead, clear your queue and then use 'drag-and-drop' to add songs to the queue instead.   The full explanation (and somewhat patronising post) by Wild Willy is here https://community.spotify.com/t5/Ongoing-Issues/Playback-issues-related-to-the-next-song-in-the-queu...

Message to SPOTIFY: If the 'Add to Queue' menu function no longer works (and it doesn't) why not remove it from the menus on the App entirely until you have fixed it. There is no purpose it being there and it is clearly a source of great confusion and frustration for your users.

This just started yesterday and I don't understand why. It should play one song after another from my playlist library

I added a song to the que, so i skipped the current song. Now the music doesnt play and i cant skip or press any of the buttons.

same thing happens to me, it plays the forst song, then an add and then stops, i have to manually change the playlist or song.

I have tried reinstalling, deleting the cache and all the common fixes and nothing works for more than a day.
