My Question or Issue
Spotify podcasts stopped working on Google Home connected speakers.
1. When I ask Google Home to play Spotify podcasts, or when I cast from my iPhone to a Google speaker and try to play a podcast, nothing happens.
2. When a podcast episode comes up in a playlist (e.g. Daily Drive) while the playlist is playing on a Google speaker (either direct or casting), the episode is skipped without notice and only music tracks are playing.
The issue became apparent this week but might have been present in December 2021.
Steps taken already did not resolve the problem:
- logged out on Spotify mobile
- updated Spotify on mobile
- unlinked and re-linked Spotify in Google Home app
- restarted my router
Please help!
"Support" will say anything. Spotify knows this is an issue and their customer service people have a series of questions to ask us to keep us busy.
I had a person ask me to reset my WiFi when I told them that music plays just fine on every device. I am working from home and I work for a very large law firm. Reset my WiFi during a work day? Yeah okay.
Agreed. I've been a user for 7 years now, suddenly this happens and we're all treated like idiots. Restart your device, reset your phone, download the app again, reset your WiFi, blah blah blah. I really should screenshot the conversation I had with a customer service person and post it to Twitter. It was ridiculous. They know this is their problem and their unwillingness for literally years to fix it feels like a reason to stop giving them my money.
Hello -
ALL podcasts won't play from Spotify Desktop, Web, or iPhone App to ANY of these devices:
The only way to listen to these is thru bluetooth. Music plays just fine to all of these devices but podcasts won't. This started happening in DEC 2021 and the only solution offered was to start a new account.

My Question or Issue
I can listen to my podcasts in my phone however whenever I try to listen to them in the TV, or ask Alexa to play them they just won't play, also I tried in the web App and same result podcasts won't play but music will.
Hey folks,
Thanks for all the info you've sent so far!
We’ve passed your info on to the relevant team, who are currently looking into it. We’ll keep you posted and let you know as soon as we have any updates on this.
Cheers 🙂
I'm having the exact same problem and have been since December. At the start of the year I contacted Spotify support and after going through all the steps I've seen repeated on here over and over the person told me Spotify no longer supports podcasts on those devices.
Will you ever fix this ongoing and very annoying bug? no support from twitter team etc. Does no one from spotify takes this issue serious? so many customer complaints here and on twitter.
Hey folks,
Thanks for the posts.
The right teams at Spotify are looking into this.
Currently we don't have any more information to share, but we'll post there once we have more news.
Cheers.
This is an ongoing Spotify problem that can’t be remedied with these steps.
Podcasts will NOT play to Alexa devices using my Spotify PREMIUM account, but will work if logged-in on a separate account.
Spotify specialists accepted that it was a Spotify account-specific issue. However, after completely migrating my PREMIUM PLAN to a new account and having reinvite all of my family members to the account and get their accounts working again, IT STILL DOESN’T WORK.
I still cannot play podcasts to Alexa Devices—A feature that I am paying for.
Has Spotify fixed this account-based error yet?
This is happening to me on both my PS5 and Google Home mini.
I have a Samsung 22 Ultra and I can play music, but not podcasts.
This needs to be fixed, it's absurd this many people are having this problem and there's still no solution
Hi, I have been experiencing this podcast on amazon echos via Spotify connect issue for a long Time. Was the same with Spotify in my BMW car... but that has recently started to work.
When will this be fixed... 70% of my spotify use is podcasts
Really limiting.
edit: reply didn't work just like EVERYTHING ELSE ON SPOTIFY
this used to be a viable solution but for some reason has stopped working. the fact that this issue is still ongoing is quite insane and shows how little spotify cares. there's new posts about this same topic daily as recently as 5 minutes ago. support is of no help as always.
FIX THIS ALREADY. the fact that this community has done more of YOUR JOB than you have is ridiculous. either fix it PERMANTLY or cut the premium subscription rate in half for affected members until you do. what a slap in the face this is.
This has been going on for years. As someone else suggested, Spotify should be giving us a discount until this is resolved. Amazon just gave me free music for 3 months just bc I bought an air conditioner from them, maybe I'll enjoy it enough to subscribe.
Still nothing?
Is this issue going to have a resolution soon? It seems like it's been going on for about 6 months now! Crazy!
Try 24 months.
It's a joke that we are being ignored
I'm not far away from canceling and moving to either free version or amazon.
