My Question or Issue

I'm a user of the Family-subscription and can't understand why you want to track the location via GPS to continue offering me a "Premium discount"?

I pay for the family plan and it should not matter where my family lives. Will you cancel my account if my family gets too far from each other?

Some families don't live together, but they still are family. They might work abroad, study or like to travel.

If you wanted more individual accounts maybe you should have considered if you should introduce the family plan or not.

Don't force your customers to cancel their subscriptions.

Horrible. My kids live with me 50% of the time. So I can’t add them to a family plan? Apple Music it is… Not good business Spotify

I've got a normal Premium plan here in Spain, on a Samsung phone, and I'm happy with it, my family liked it but don't listen to that much music so they were not interested.

Then we heard of the family plan and due to the price reduction they started to consider it, but since we only live all-together on the same residence only on weekends and holydays we are not sure of whether we can actually get this plan or if the App will ask for our geolocalization during weekdays as well, and then freeze our accounts when we almost sistematically are not at the same residence during week days, even if we are together DURING WEEKENDS AND HOLYDAYS...

Apart from that, I'm wondering why it is called Family Plan when it is more of an Inmates Plan, since it only looks at whether you're living together or not, but not if you're actually family or not...

It was nice to have my comment moved to the appropiate string of comments, but not so nice to have it ignored...

What I would like to know is:

1. How often does Spotify ask to check your ubication?

2. Depending on how often the ubication is checked, what happens if you, for instance, go ago on a two to four months trip out of your residence?

3. Isn't there any way to justify your movements so your account does not get cancelled?

4. The stupid question: if it is based on cohabitation on the same geolocalized spot, why is it called "Family plan" instead of "Cohabitation plan" or something on those lines? And why isn't there a proper explanation on how often geolocalization is done so that people that cohabitate but move around from time to time can know wheter they can procceed with this plan or need to consider other options?

Thank you very much for your answers in advance.

So I got this family account for my wife and me to share. I received an email saying that if she didn't verify her address, she would be removed from my family account. I honestly thought it was spam because it seemed crazy. We don't trust clicking on emails these days so I logged into her account thinking there would be some type of notification, right? Nope, nothing at all. So, I went in and added our home address to her account and saved thinking that would do the trick... well at least I thought it would.

Today, I received an email stating that she was removed from my family plan and I wouldn't be able to add her back? What kind of trash is this? I went to the spotify site to try and open a ticket... yea, can't do that ether but post on a community forum? This is the service I pay for? Screw this, I am out. Cancelling my sub right now and just going to pay for youtube music instead.

While typing this up, I had to also click I am not a robot like 20 times, lol, pathetic anti-consumer company.

Unfortunately, I have to report that even Spotify's claim of using the family plan for people who live in the same household doesn't seem to hold up. I started traveling long(er) term and should re-confirm my address, well, no problem. I tried multiple times and every time the autocorrect, "corrected" my address to something different and then told me that it's the wrong address. I reached out to customer support, and they let me know that I can't do the confirmation because I'm in a different country.

So much for the claim that Spotify wouldn't track my location, but that's a different story I guess ...

After some back and forth, they granted me a month Premium for free, assuring me, that if I'm not back in a month, then we would find an alternative. Today, I reached out to customer support again because the month was over, only to be told that the "alternative" for me is to sign up for my own Premium or use the service for free.

Oh, and it turns also out, that for some reason my account is now blocked from joining any family account for the next 12 months.

So now I'm paying for a service I can't use only because I'm traveling. Apparently, they could add me again when I'm back in Germany. So basically, I have to stop my travel plans and go back to Germany just to join the service I'm paying for?!

I think this is just highly unfair and immoral, especially in combination with them location tracking me, even though they clearly state in their help article around this topic, that they don't.

Hi.

My partner and I own two homes and split our time between them. Can we sign up to the family plan?

I wanted to create a duo account for me and my father who is on pension, having a smaller salary and does not want any extra subscriptions. I created it to pay for him without knowing we had to live under the same roof. I am paying more changing to duo so why MUST we live under the same roof. Create another option then for 2 people not living under the same roof who would like to share the costs. I am sure you will get more subscribers. Also now I can't change back to individual for the next 12 months which is ridiculous because now I will be paying more for 1 person, I could understand if you can't change back for 1 or 2 months.

Setting up a family account. One person is on hospital, no permanent address.
