Spotify won't download music

Solved!

Spotify won't download music

Hi, I've been a premium Spotify user for several months now, and I have never had this problem before. No matter which device I am logged into Spotify on, I can't download music. Last night I tried on my computer, turned Spotify off and back on, signed out and back in, uninstalled and reinstalled Spotify, and it still wouldn't download any new songs. However it did download all the songs I already had after I reinstalled it, so I'm very confused as to why I'm unable to download new songs. My iPhone is having a much stranger problem. I can download songs only after signing out and back in, and the next time I open the app I usually find that they have un-downloaded themselves, along with some of the songs I already had. I've tried re-opening the app, signing out and back in, and reinstalling, but none of that fixes the problem. This is very frustrating for me, and it makes absolutely no sense. Can Spotify please look into this problem?

Do you have more than 3 devices, or more than 3,333 downloaded tracks? That is the current limit 🙂

Ohhh, yes I have hit that limit. Darn, I'm gonna have to delete a lot of songs. Is the limit ever going to be raised?

Hey Paul 🙂

Sometimes it happens that Spotify detects one of your devices as more than 1 device, which causes you to exceed the 3 device limit and when that happens, whichever device was registered first will be removed. For example, updating the operating system on my phone for me caused Spotify to decide it was a different phone than before.

Easiest thing to do is reboot your computer and then try and mark content offline again and see what happens.

If you want a clean slate to start over again (but you would have to resync all of your devices) see this topic 😉

Also, how much free storage space do you have on your device? Spotify won't start synching if you have less than 500MB of free storage generally.

Ah I do seem to remember this issue with that app!

Is it possible to update your iOS to the latest version?

The reason being current in development Spotify is only supported on iOS 6+, so anything older is now legacy.

Hey! Welcome to the community 🙂

Is it possible you are hitting the 3,333 track limit at all?

It's set by the record labels. Spotify are always trying to get it reduced, however nothing as of yet.

Hi Liam,

I have just encountered the same problem - I am running on 3 devices, do not have anywhere near 3,000 tracks.  i got a message saying my computer had the download ability taken away from it - with no explanation.

Do you have any advice you could give as you seem to be a fountain of knowledge when it comes to Spotify!

Thanks

Paul

hello

I just subscriped to Spotify Premium and i am trying to download music so that I can listen to music offline. I am on Iphone 4 (i know). I flipped the AVAILABLE OFFLINE button on but nothing is happening. None of the songs get a green arrow. What am i doing wrong ? I only have one device and have 0 downloads.

Thank you !

Hi @sun1968 Can you just check that your account overview shows an active premium subscription. Do you get any error messages when you try to download? Are you using wifi or mobile data?

Thank you very much for the quick response - its much appreciated !

Actually i have one more question - i seem unable to play a whole album - each song has to be started manually. What do i need to do to play the whole album(playlist) automatically ? thank you

You shouldn't need to do anything, so that is definitely weird! So it just gets to the end of a track and stops?

If so, can you let us know your iOS and Spotify versions?

HI guys. I have this 30-days-free-premium-account from Spotify. I know that I can listen to the music offline. But I can't finde the way, how to download them. Is the offline-playlist the only way? Thx for help, Svenja

Hello @Donner1987 Welcome to the Community!

Yes, currently offline playlists are the only way to have music offline, you go into the playlist and enable "Available Offline" here is more detailed steps for each OS 🙂

Hope this helped 🙂
