My Question or Issue

Since last week, at least once a day, I have received a "New login to Spotify" warning email, either from USA or Russia. I have followed all steps, removed apps/logins, changed password (even FB) multiple times. None of the time seem to fix the issue as I will receive the same email again a couple of hours later.

I noticed others in the forum are having the same issue, so can only presume there has been a widespread leak/breach. Can spotify please escalate this, get a technician to look into this?

Hey,

There really have been a lot of reports about exactly this issue and Spotify definitely needs to take a look at this. As the last thing that I would try if I were you, you could change the email address linked to your account if you haven't already. It probably won't fix the issue, but that's just what I would try.

Have a great week.

Hello @Fundie

Thank you for reaching out here in the Community!

It's good to know that you've already taken some steps.
If you see suspicious activity on your Spotify account:

  1. Go to your account page and click SIGN OUT EVERYWHERE
  2. Open the password reset form in a private/incognito window, and choose a strong password you haven't used before.

It's also strongly advised that you change the password for:

  • The email address associated with your Spotify account (e.g. with Gmail, Hotmail, etc.).
  • Any Facebook profile associated with your Spotify account. You can make sure you're the only one currently logged into your Facebook in your Facebook Settings, under Security and login > Where You’re Logged In.
  • Any service where you use the same password as Spotify.

Make sure to check this article as well, in order to protect your Spotify account.

If after following those steps, the issue still persists, you can reach out to Customer Support. You can find the contact form here.

You might also want to take a look at this Live Idea that is under consideration.

More information about how the Spotify Idea Exchange works can be found here.

I hope it helps!

Yesterday, I had three attempted logins throughout the day, apparently from Russia.  I changed my password but received a message from Spotify this morning that they reset my password to protect my account due to suspicious activity overnight.  I appreciate that Spotify let me know, but what is being done to prevent this on Spotify's end??

Hello @clmancinelli

Thanks for the response!

Spotify cares about the security of user's personal data. Their Security Team constantly works to keep your account and your personal information safe.

If you noticed any strange activity on your account, make sure to follow the steps provided in this Support Article, including contacting Customer Support.

I think it might be also worth adding your +VOTE to this idea regarding two-step authentication, that is under consideration. More details on that can be found here

Enjoy your day!

I believe Spotify either has a breach and is either not aware of is not releasing to the public. I have had 4 separate accounts all hacked in the past two weeks. All with random generated passwords. Where is the 2-factor auth Spotify?! This is 2020, come on.....

It happened to me too, what's going on? unauthorized logins from USA or Poland, 3 in the last 2 days. I've changed passwords, even in facebook every time and it keep happening. I will try to remove credit card.

Hello @JuliaDerb

If you see suspicious activity on your account, make sure to follow all the steps provided in this support article, including getting in touch with Customer Support. You can reach them on Twitter and Facebook as well.

They'll respond to you as soon as possible and will be happy to provide with further support.

Please, take a look at this article as well on how to protect your Spotify account.

Have a great day!

Spotify takes into account the dots in email addresses, Google doesn't. This means a Russian can exploit a zombie account with a different dot configuration. Each time he logs in, you get an email... Your account was opened in Russia .... It's obviously one step in an identity theft mechanism. The Spotify account mechanism is incompatible with Google email address syntax

I am also hitting this problem with a very strong randomly generated password, Spotify you have a breach and it needs to be fixed, next stop Twitter.
