[All Platforms] Customize Start Screen

This is not a new idea, but I haven't found any practical reply to it, so I think it needs to be repeated. I completely agree with Rennestein (screen capture below), we need to stop seeing irrelevant suggestions because it is annoying. Why can't it be possible to decide what we first see when we open Spotify on any device? (playlists, recently played, artists we're following, etc), and enjoy better our Spotify experience?
Please Spotify, let us have the home screen as we'd like. :)) Thank you!

Hey folks,

We appreciate you sharing your feedback on the Community and showing your support to this idea.

We're setting this idea to 'Not Right Now', as this isn't something we have any immediate plans to implement. If we do have any new info to share, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status.

Update from the 23rd of Feb 2023:

A new feature was recently introduced in the mobile app which you may find interesting as it allows users to remove content recommendations from the subfeeds (Music and Podcasts & Shows) of their Home screen, thus expanding upon the current customization options and offering a improved, more personalized experience. You can find more info about it in the Status update here.

Thanks.

BREAKING NEWS: Spotify is changing their name to Podcastify

megankylie

I don't see why you can't have a widget option for the home screen. And preferably widgets that work and aren't buggy. Obviously a lot of people are interested in this subject. At least allow some discussion. Isn't that what the community page is for?

juniorz

Why do you FORCE to see ads for podcasts to those of us who are not interested in that?

It's a little bit arrogant not to allow the user to customize what we want to see.

If we are paying customers, we should be allowed to set what we want to see.

So, when will you finally remove the advertisements/podcasts cr*p from my homescreen? The first thing I see on my homescreen are 5 album recommendations against 10(!!) podcast recommendations.

When I scroll down there now is a full section with "Spinvis essentials". I never listened to a song of Spinvis (or maybe once in "discover weekly" and clicked the dislike artists), which means there must be paid for it to put this artists in the spotlight on the homescreen.

When more cr*p like this is added to the app (desktop and mobile), I'm consedering more and more to just cancel my paid subscription and look for a replacement. I hate when companies do stuff like this.

I listen to music to get away from the non-stop political noise pollution.  Maybe add an extra tier of paid membership that allows us to avoid your politics? I would definitely pay more, although I realize this would ultimately end up being self-defeating. Every time you look for more revenue, you post infuriating woke nonsense and offer to charge me to remove it. Worth it.

I think you should change this status because I'm one step away from unsubscribing from Premium due to how poor your Home page recommendations are. 99% of the Home page recommendations have nothing to do with my music preferences, and likely you are using that space to make money off artists while providing them very low value.

+1 for this suggestion.  Lots of irrelevant stuff on the home page.

My "home" page currently contains:

1. a full row of some recently played stuff.  Why would I want this prioritized?  I just listened to it, next I'll be moving to discovering new music...

2. a full row of podcasts.   This is entierly uninteresting to me.

After scrolling I can see this:

3. "recommended for today".  This is actually something containing useful stuff although I don't use it much.

4. "my playlists".  This just stupid, my playlists are already on the menu to the left.

After scrolling more I get some "similiar to..." rows based on a seemingly random selection of what I have listened to the latest few weeks.

Disabling the first two rows would help a lot, although it would be trivial to see that I never interact with those.

I landed on this topic because this other topic was marked as a duplicate. (https://community.spotify.com/t5/Closed-Ideas/All-Platforms-Your-Library-Turn-Off-Recommendations/id...) Being able to customize the start screen is less important to me than simply turning off the recommendations, which are often offensive. These recommendations are actually advertisements. The artists/podcasters get paid depending on how many people listen to them. I have to tap on Dismiss to get past them. I pay for premium so that I won't get advertisements! #SetItToRightNowDammit, or I will look for a different music service.

Customization of the start screen in different forms is a theme I am seeing consistently and believe should be taken into consideration.
I personally find the homepage useless because of how much unrelated spam I see there, and skip it altogether (which is basically just confirming that it really makes sense to try to work on improvements), so it doesn't bother me all that much, but I can see how users who used to actually explore things they might've liked there are frustrated by it.

A few examples of other topics related to this theme were:
- people wanting an option to toggle off/on podcasts
- people wanting to dislike artists to not have them in suggested

please this is crazy. I am Apple Music user who recently bought family plan. I clicked on few podcast which are not appropriate for kids. It's coming for a week. And guess what, I've never played those content. I plugged my phone to car, and guess what Car Play shows inappropriate content on screen. This is violation of privacy and you can't use prominent real estate of the screen for showcasing person content which is meant for my account .

This can't be feature. Please, begging to your PM and UX -- remove this.
