[All Platforms] Customize Start Screen

This is not a new idea, but I haven't found any practical reply to it, so I think it needs to be repeated. I completely agree with Rennestein (screen capture below), we need to stop seeing irrelevant suggestions because it is annoying. Why can't it be possible to decide what we first see when we open Spotify on any device? (playlists, recently played, artists we're following, etc), and enjoy better our Spotify experience?
Please Spotify, let us have the home screen as we'd like. :)) Thank you!

Hey folks,

We appreciate you sharing your feedback on the Community and showing your support to this idea.

We're setting this idea to 'Not Right Now', as this isn't something we have any immediate plans to implement. If we do have any new info to share, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status.

Update from the 23rd of Feb 2023:

A new feature was recently introduced in the mobile app which you may find interesting as it allows users to remove content recommendations from the subfeeds (Music and Podcasts & Shows) of their Home screen, thus expanding upon the current customization options and offering a improved, more personalized experience. You can find more info about it in the Status update here.

Thanks.

@wojciechsura - I can confirm this method works great too. One small enhancement: if you use 7-Zip you can open the xpui.spa file directly and edit the xpui.js file in-place, so there's no need to uncompress first and re-compress afterwards.  I assume we will need to make this change after each Spotify upgrade.

You guys/gals are awesome! 👍

I can confirm this too!

So we can conclude that this option is already present in the screen rendering code of the clients, but Spotify refuses to give us a setting to enable this. Shame on you, @Spotify!!!

You have no idea on how hard it is to type this while going through the process of grief, you are not considering the impact some of your suggestions will have on your end users because money talks.

Please listen to you users, your suggestions are at best slightly relavent, at worst down right offensive.

As for the E for enhance you know what you can do with that!!

Regards a still very much a gieving widower

Thank you for not resolving this issue for a couple of years now. I once listened to one episode of some playlist and now it is been in the top left corner of my home page for a couple of months every time i open the app. This is **bleep****bleep** and i quit your app for apple music only because of this thing. **bleep**en ridiculous. You really don't give a damn about the clients.

Please make it customizable! I don't listen to podcasts yet my full front page is full of podcasts. I tuned into one with quick and easy cooking recipies once when podcasts were new, years ago - now all the suggestions on my frontpage are about weightloss cooking stuff that I would never listen to anyway. WHY. All I wanna hear is music that I am interested in and I want to see news of artists that I follow! That is quite frustrating. Btw the music ads I am getting there don't fit my genres at all either.
And if you make it customizable, I also miss the option to listen to all albums of a band, I am still so sad you removed it!

Just a note, all credit for the hack goes for Remy Sharp, I just checked, that on Windows you can do it as well.

By the way, maybe it's worth reaching out with our problem? Spotify obviously ignores us, but maybe an article in Engadget or some kind of similar service could be something, what would exert some pressure on Spotify? The problem may be generalized: listening to voice of users is nowadays very uncommon - especially if you're (almost) monopolist on the market.

Still, it is just sad, that we must resort to such measures to cause a change, which such many paying users want...

Seaside_kid

Thanks a lot Remy Sharp! Your hack worked perfectly on my mac, hope there will appear similar way for ios. Thanks @Spotify for doing nothing.

Update on the xpui.spa file: it gets reset after each update. So I kept a copy of the "cleaned" xpui.spa file and just copied at back in the Spotify folder. You can automate this fairly easy with a command file (or shell file, whatever you have to use in your OS).

wojciechsura

@robertvw, NO, don't do that! Spotify consists of multiple Javascript files, which - most likely - work along with each other. Update may contain changes to xpui.js file and if you replace it with previous version, you may break the whole application. If Spotify updates, unfortunately you have to perform the whole hack again.

If you want to automate the process and write a script, you'd need to write script performing the hack itself. I suppose, that writing one in Python or C# should be failry easy, as those languages should have easily available libraries for decompressing and compressing zip files.
