I've already voted for the idea to allow a disable toggle for podcasts so I stop getting them inserted into recommended playlists, but how do I block a specific podcast?
The home screen of the Mac Desktop app has become a continuous advertisement for the Joe Rogan podcast, which I do not want to see nor want any chance to accidentally click on. How do I get this trash off of my home page? I'm already not thrilled with some of the podcast hosts Spotify advertises and seriously considering cancelling my subscription entirely, and forcing me to look at this stuff every time I open the app is just abother reason to get away from the whole platform.
You don't shove a whole row of music I don't like at the top of my home screen, why am I seeing a whole row dedicated to Rogan before any of my own actual preferred content?
Hey folks,
Thanks for posting on the Community about this.
For now it's not possible to block certain podcast shows, however, we recommend having a look at this Live Idea suggesting the implementation of an option allowing users to perform this action within the Spotify app.
You can support the idea by adding your +VOTE and clicking on Subscribe in the three-dots menu at the top right corner next to the title. That'll make sure you stay up-to-date with any relevant updates about this. It’s also worth knowing that the higher the number of votes an idea gets, the more likely it is for the idea to be implemented.
We always take new ideas and feedback into consideration to improve the app. Here you can read more on how ideas work.
Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any questions.
Hey everyone,
Thanks for sharing your feedback with the Community.
We value your feedback and will take it into consideration when moving forward. In the meantime, there are a couple more ideas besides the one @Ivan posted above, that you can add your support to:
If this is also something you'd like to see, make sure to +VOTE and subscribe to the ideas. The Idea Exchange is a great way for us to see what our users are interested in and how many people like a certain idea. You can read more about it here.
Hope this info is useful. We'll be here if you have any other questions.
Have you addressed this yet ??
Hi Evan,
Keep in mind that you're not helping anyone!
You're just jumping through hoops!
Well, while I must mention that I find it a bit ridiculous (my excuses, strongly feel like I have to mention it but don't want to be hurtful with this) since the algorithm only shows you what you listen to, at least this idea would not prevent me from getting the experience I like to get from spotify.
"Effectively," but nice alliteration...
I joined Spotify again just because of JR. not saying a big fan but a balance intelligent view point is required in a stable world, not a one sided weighted echo-chamber. The scales are not balanced and JR is in fact very middle ground.
I do agree in being able to disable/block podcasts you have no interest in, that you object to, if you want to seek out a show in search thats different, and a little label saying 'ignored' in fact an ignored option better than block, similar to Steams ignore function on games.
There are many podcasts here on Spotify that I spend a long time researching, the production company and presenters to see if they are worth the time to listen to, ie many of the Science podcasts do not have scientists presenting them so the option to ignore podcasts that I have determined NOPE.
I also agree if users want to ignore JR they should have that option, like any podcast. But I cannot vote +1 on this as it's a crosshairs (censorship) request not a broad betterment for the whole community request.
So many anti-democratic people here that want to cancel Joe Rogan. We want to have ALL his podcasts back! Restore them immediately. If a guy can't talk to a couple of leading experts in their fields, I know we are already living in a dictatorship. The haters are the ones wanting to shut down, you know in your hearts I'm right. Once again Spotify, if you remove Joe, many will leave Spotify for that reason. Also, what kind of employees do you have that think they are rulers of the world. There MUST be many other developers that can take their positions if they decide to leave.
Anti-democratic is the fact that you have no choice but accept the promotion of a certain content - without having the option to turn it off. The issue, as it clearly states in the title, is to BLOCK content of your own choosing. Communist countries used to have every single book start with the picture of the supreme leader - the fact that we can't opt out seeing Joe's mug every time we log on to a platform (we pay for) is akin to having propaganda showed down our throats. It needs to stop.
I'm still with Spotify because they keep Joe Rogan on as well as Neil Young. I don't want censorship!
If I don't like something I'm able to skip or ignore it. As soon as Spotify starts to remove too much, I'll leave!
Lol, saying Rumble is all you need to know about Joe Rogan's trash.
Doesn't look like this is going to change, I'm with Neil. "The motel of lost companions waits with heated pool and bar"
Please revisit this decision - I'm mortified to have this shown on my recommendations while working in an open office or in a screen sharing session.
This may seem like a small thing to you, but I've moved on to another platform for now.
Allowing people to block a podcast may be a solution, but the real solution is for the people running Spotify to not pay millions to spread the ideas of a person that spreads lies about the pandemic and that thinks saying racist things is entertaining to listen to.
This is not a problem with Rogan, it is a problem with the people running Spotify. You are judged by the programs YOU exclusively support. My wife and I have used your service for years now, but currently looking for a replacement. Now it feels distasteful to open Spotify considering your companies values.
Just adding my voice. If we can choose to ignore certain artists and songs, we should be able to do the same for podcasts; regardless of whether they're of an offensive myopically minded **bleep** like Joe Rogan or not. Or maybe that's especially if they're...
It's not censorship !
No one in this thread is talking about Removing or "Cancelling" Joe Rogan off the entire platform. All we ask is that there's a way to hide/block/remove Joe Rogan from constantly showing up in our feed. That's it.
Not a single person here is asking to have Joe Rogan REMOVED.
We just want a way to block him from coming up in our feeds, that's it. No need to get so defensive.
It's been almost a year, and I am still getting his podcast suggested in the very first slot. I have no idea at all why they look at my music and podcasts and think, "Yup, you would love Joe Rogan." It's not like I listen to Elon Rock. It's beginning to look like Spotify is going to do nothing at all. Just wait out the clamor.
Hey there you, Yeah, you! 😁 Welcome - we're glad you joined the Spotify Community! While you here, let's have a fun game and get…
