[India] This card doesn’t allow monthly billing

Solved!

[India] This card doesn’t allow monthly billing

My Question or Issue

I'm unable to use my debit card to start the trial. Every time I enter my card details it says "This card doesn’t allow monthly billing. If your card has been charged, we’ll reverse the transaction.

You can still get Premium - just change to a prepaid plan, or try another card.”

I have tried it with 2 different Banks but still the same. Also I am subscribed to other services which has monthly billing on this same card.

Hi @ashyam,

I was succesful in subscibing to it. I don't know what was the exact problem for me but suddenly it worked with credit card. In your case I think the problem is you are using a debit card. and Spotify as per now only allows monthly billing on credit card. So I would suggest you to do it with credit card or wait till Spotify allows debit card billing or ECS from bank account.

Hi

My brother was using his debit card (not Indian) to subscribe to Spotify in the past. It could be possible that they dont accept Indian debit cards. I dont know, I'm just making assumptions here because I haven't found anything to support this. I shall just wait till its fixed I guess.

Same issue here

Any fix yet?

Hey @ashyam@deep11995@Fazal@rohanmh12 and @AshwinGoyal273,

Many debit cards in India don’t allow recurring payments. In this case we recommend choosing a different prepaid product or using a different payment card which allows recurring payments. Your bank might be able to tell you more about your payment method and why your current card is not being accepted.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have further questions.

Have a nice day.

I am facing the same issue with my debit card. That same card works for Netflix though (which also requires monthly billing)

Exactly. Its not that the card doesn't allow monthly billing. It's something on Spotify's side.

I'm agree with @tyagi @ashyam

when will i get the money of rs59 back.?...it had been debited 2 days ago...so when will i get my money back.?

Facing similar issue. Been trying to subscribe from Day 1, still get the same error. Tried a virtual VISA card with no luck. Sucks that there is no option to pay with PayPal or UPI/Wallet either. This is likely an issue from Spotify's side. 😕

The issue is probably because you are using a debit card. India has enabled only credit for the 59 INR/month and in the 66 INR/30 Days they have enabled Paytm as well. So if urgent you can proceed with the 66 through Paytm or wait till @SpotifyIndia corrects it's payment modalities and adds debit and other options for the 59INR/ month subscription.

Hey folks,

Thanks for raising this with us, and apologies for the late reply!

Any payment issues with accounts in India should now be fixed 🙂

Let us know if you're still having trouble paying for Premium - we're right here.

Hey Peter,

I can confirm that this issue has not been fixed(with subscription issues to related to payments via. debit cards). I am seeing the same errors as posted by others in this thread. I also cross-checked with my bank and they are 100% sure that the error is actually on Spotify's end.

I subscribed for student discount of 59 INR per month, but since debit card is not allowed for monthly subscription I was charged with the amount but the offer was not activated. Now I subscribed through prepaid offer of 66 INR. How do I get back my previous transaction amount?

The refund amount will be reflected in your account in the next 5-7 days depending on your bank and also excluding any holidays.

Thanks for your support and help 😄👍🏼

Hey @1337listener.

Thanks for reaching out.

Could you let us know exactly what the issue is that you're experiencing? We'll look into it.

Thanks 🙂

The same as everyone else is experiencing.

At least in my case, I am trying to pay for Spotify Student subscription that's billed monthly at Rs. 59/month. Mind you, this is processed directly and not through PayTM. Unfortunately, while the payment goes through and my bank debits the charges from my account, Spotify is unable to recognize the payment and hence pops the same error mentioning that the card is not supported for monthly billing which is not true. If that was to be the case, then it shouldn't have worked with Apple iTunes, NetFlix, Amazon.com and any other website supporting international transactions. All other websites are able to process payments without any hassle.

TLDR: It's successful from the bank's side while Spotify is not ready to acknowledge it resulting in the same error attached in the image.

Hey @Peter. I'm facing the same issue that everybody else is dealing with on this thread. I tried buying the Student discounted PREMIUIM version of SPOTIFY which costs 59.00 INR/month by using a debit card and mind you i used the same platinum debit VISA card which i regularly use for online shopping at Amazon.com and other services like NETFLIX, PrimeVideo etc. which are all well known international services. But unfortunately in this case of Spotify i got an error message, after the amount was debited from my account "THIS CARD DOESN'T ALLOW MONTHLY BILLLING". I confirmed with my bank that there was no mistake at their end and the vendor(being spotify here) is at fault here. PLEASE Look into this problem of mine and solve this at the earliest. I REALLY WANT TO USE SPOTIFY PREMIUM. And if this problem can't be fixed then please let me know how sooner when will be the refund be made as i have already done the payment twice by two different debit cards!!!!!

Device: OnePlus 6

OS: Android 9

I have also attached the error message
