My Question or Issue

My Desktop Version got updated all of a sudden and now i got a completely different look. I don't have the friend activity bar on the right side, i can't change my playlists covers or description. I can't even see my own profile like before on the top right. It is like the phone version because i honestly can't customize anything anymore.

Same on the Web player. I downloaded an older version already, which helps, but it updates itself automatically and gets back to the new(?) design. Is there anyone with the same issues or with a solution?

Thanks.

I've voted. This is a pathetic way to "test" a release on live users. Absolutely dreadful service.

daily routine:

1. start pc

2. crippled spotify version autostarts upon boot + does some auto-update frenzy

3. crippled spotify version gets happily killed by user

4. i install "spotify-1-0-85-259.exe", a setup file which is meanwhile lying on my desktop

5. 10 seconds later i can use the non-crippled version

6. time passes by while i am using a meaningful version of the application

7. shut down pc

8. return to 1.

my NVMe will probably die at least 1 day earlier due to this.

sincere f**kings to whoever decided this "test" was a good idea to push loyal customers in.

much love.

Awesome! Now how do we find an earlier version of Spotify?

@kaporegime

I don't know. The old version is hosted on a bunch of file transfer sites, but there are serious risks of getting malware or outright hacked.

If somebody has an old version and could provide the file hash and version #,  that would be amazing.

I got an older, good looking version from this site <snip - Moderator Edit> I am trying the batch method for now, hopefully works!

Hi, could you upload your version to zippyshare please?

Not at all. My account is from Brazil and I've been living in Israel for the past 3 years.
People all over the world are facing the same problems.

Yes, they did remove also this function.
😞

Hey, Elena.

I just don't get WHAT are you testing? Our patience?

Or maybe you're testing if costumers will leave spotify for good?

Or maybe you're testing if we're stupid enough to keep on paying you for this desastrous service?

Would you mind responding?

That's the issue, the desktop version looks like the web player.. very limited functionality... Same thing I experience on my Mac

Thank you Klaus!

Because of your post, I started searching for an older version of the Mac app, and found one from before March 2020. (That is when the new UI kicked in).

After installing this version, I finally got my original UI back, with all its features.

I have the ability back to manage/edit my playlists, and manage my local files. Finally I can use all the features that I'm actually paying for... 🙂

So i now have the new freind tab back. again.

1. Spotify removes the freind tab (and all the other features)

2. I get the updated friend tab after many weeks.

3. The friend tab got removed again after a few days or the same day. i wrote it somewhere in  this topic before.

4. now i have the freind tab back.

kinda interesting

let's see how long i'll have it this time

if this new freind tab is the feature you are testing for over two months now than it's just pathetic imo.

i see no other testing going on here except downgrades.

change my mind.

reminder that <snip - Moderator Edit> is the only viable solution to keep the good spotify version!

Hey people!

For some reason I've been contacted by Spotify Support.

Here's their instructions to solve the issue:

Hey there,

We understand how frustrating this can be and didn't mean to hassle you through out the process.

Can you try the following steps:
  1. Open Notepad as an administrator (right-click - Open as Administrator)
  2. go to File - Open and navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
  3. Choose "All Files" instead of "Text Documents" next to the File Name box. You'll see a handful of files. Pick hosts and click on Open
  4. When the file is open, you will see a block of text with # in front of each line and might see entries like 0.0.0.0 website.com127.0.0.1 website2.com
  5. Check for any entries with Spotify in the address. Examples may look like: 0.0.0.0 weblb-wg.gslb.spotify.com0.0.0.0
  6. If you do find any lines with Spotify, please remove them.
  7. Save your changes and restart Spotify.
We want to get this sorted as quickly as possible, so we'll be on a lookout for your reply.

All the best,

Fahrizal F.

Spotify Customer Support"

It didn't work for me, since there was no entry with the spotify address. But maybe some of you may get lucky. If so, please respond here.  🙂

If you remove those entries it wont be blocked anymore, you should add these entries to eventually block the update hostname (in case this is the hostname for updates), I'll try it out myself.
In case you didn't know: the hosts file can be modified to stop resolving certain hostnames, meaning you wont be able to connect to them anymore, this is a viable option to block something out but you can also block out spotify itself with that in case it shares the same hostname to play music, login etc but I'll try now myself!

I am thinking of shorting the stock. I have never seen a failed support service this big in any company. Only on failing companies can you see something as failed as this. And the failure keeps increasing everyday

it seems like the given hostname from customer support does nothing to prevent the download of the update, you guys should rely on the batch method, it works flawless, or just go to C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Local\Spotify and delete Update folder everytime you restart spotify

Everything you retry, you will eventually return to the web version
