[All Platforms] Music keeps un-downloading

(iPhone 8, Samsung Galaxy 9, Macbook Pro late 2016)

Operating System

(iOS 10, Android Oreo, Windows 10,etc.)

My Question or Issue

I am soon unsubscribing to this app. I’m paying money for the premium and my songs keep un-downloading. This has happened at least 3 times or more now in the past year. Soon as I get some play list I like, I’ll go into the app on a day where I’m out of service and don’t have data. All the songs will be gone, unable to play because the download erased. Very very frustrating. Seeing how I’m paying for that service and not getting it.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for reporting this and providing us all the relevant info.

We've passed your details on to our developers and they have already rolled out several improvements to fix the experience reported.

We are aware that some users do still experience issues with their downloads, but our tech teams weren't able to reproduce it and this seems to be affecting specific devices or setups, so we're unable to find a solution remotely.

We're continuously improving the app and optimizing it, so we recommend keeping an eye out for future updates to the app, but can't guarantee this will fix the issue.

For now, we'd like to provide some steps which we hope might help:

  • Check out the steps on our support page here
  • Try disabling WiFi assist
  • Check for any settings that could affect the Spotify background data
  • Change the quality of the downloads in the Spotify app

We’d also recommend you try a clean reinstall, which will remove any corrupt data from your device. Just a heads-up, this will remove all your downloads and you'll have to download everything again for offline listening.

Hi Venom400 - where is this prompt?!? Where does it live?!?

I have both an Android phone and an IPad. I have a slow internet connection (56 Kb/sec). I specifically have the premium service in order to play music offline.

I have been frustrated by the deletion issue.

It regularly occurs after an update.

Ironically, the advice to fix the issue is to delete the app and do a clean install and download the music again.

Catch 22.

I have removed auto updates and won't be upgrading the app again.

I cancelled my service and went to Apple Music. It may not be perfect for
everyone, but my music is always there when I need it, and that's better
than no music.

As of 12/10/21, this is still a constant problem. As a seafarer I rely heavily on downloaded music, but on Spotify, downloaded music lasts 2 or 3 days before they are lost. The arrows that indicate downloaded content turns from green to grey. This happens whether Spotify is turned to offline mode or whether there is an insuffient Internet connection.

The bands that I experience this happening to the most are Fleshgod Apocalypse and Shadow of Intent. However it happens to laods of random songs on loads of random albums, and it seems to be getting worse, The Offspring being the latest victim.

This is an absolute deal breaker for me. If it can't/won't be resolved there really is no point in me paying for this service.

Regards,

This is still happening. I’m a premium subscriber because I can download music.  Why the F am I paying for this if you can’t fix this issue? I vote for refunds until you get this issue fixed.

I'm already 20 days in the Premium free month time and experienced the issue today for the first time when restarting my Samsung galaxy a20e android 11 smartphone. SD card in use. Permission for storage activated. When the songs are downloaded again, Spotify switches to internal storage before.

After 15 restarts the songs were still there...in the internal storage.

Then I switched the storage to the SD card and just after only 3 restarts Spotify started to download all songs again.

As I've read here on page 17 it didn't matter, whether the download quality was high or very high.

Spotify somehow looses the connection to the SD card. As if you wouldn't have logged in for 30 days, what is the official time, when songs will be deleted...

I'm using a Samsung Note 10 Lite with 20GB of music saved onto my SD card. This has been happening at least 5 times a month for the past 2 months. Tried reinstalling the whole app, checking the permissions and check any other third party cleaning app.

I've read this thread and several others back in 2020&2019 and look. It's 2022 and I find myself here yet again because Spotify app once again deleted around 13GB of my downloaded music. (And marked them as not to download) What else can I do than look for other music service which doesn't have these issues?

I've stayed with Spotify because this issue (at least for me) didnae happen too often or would happen several times in succession and then go away for months.

I'm tired of this, and Spotify doesn't seem like they can/want to address this long-time issue.

Hi,
I am also experiencing the same migrating issue in multiple occasions.

I have been I migrating to MY external drive and this damn app keeps migrating back to Cdrive when I get to turn my pc. AND THE APP KEEPS TAKING ME BACK TO STEP ONE & redownloads everything **bleep**ING playlist. Like what the **bleep**?! THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES. IT'S **bleep**ING FRUSTRATING!!!

AND WHEN SET THE  APP BACK TO EXTERNAL HARDRIVE IT WILL ALSO REDOWNLOAD THE PLAYLISTS AGAIN. OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN AGAIN.

I HAVE BEEN DOING MORE DOWNLOADS THAN LISTENING LATELY. BECAUSE OF THIS **bleep**ING ISSUE.

THE MIGRATES BACK TO C:drive and it will not look for existing files
