Playback stops after playing few songs on Echo devices

We've received multiple reports where repeat stops working & playback pauses after a few songs on Amazon Echo devices.

Hey there folks,

We've checked with our teams and this should now be fixed for everyone 🙂

Make sure that your Echo device is up-to-update, should you still experience issues. You can do this by asking Alexa for an update with the voice command - "Alexa, check for updates".

If the above doesn't do the trick, and the issue persists, we recommend that you create a new thread on our Help Board, so we can look into it further.

Cheers!

Yep, multiple Echos, same problem.  Echo 3rd gen, Echo Dot 3rd gen, Echo 2nd gen, Echo Dot 2nd gen.  I have all of my smart speakers on an Eero Plus profile with Spotify and other streaming services whitelisted.  I even whitelisted ads for that profile thinking that was the problem, no joy.  I found an old post that listed all the Spotify servers, whitelisted each domain manually, no joy.  Still stops after 2-3 songs.  (to reproduce, try "Alexa, play songs by the Beatles")

Amazon Prime Music hasn't been a problem, it's only the Spotify skill.

Hey @Maria, how long is expected to fully deploy that patch?  Or could there still be an issue?

It's ridiculous that it says fixed now - it's only fixed for them. There's
no timescale for this fix either.

01/05 still happening

Same problems here, and disappointing to see them say it’s fixed. The service is far too expensive to not work with something as prevalent as echo devices. Unsubscribing is an easy option here if they don’t figure it out asap.

It only works for about 15 minutes, then I need to manually open the playlist on my cell phone (or computer), or ask Alexa to play music. When a video is playing (the new Spotify feature), then Alexa can't play it if I don't open Spotify on my computer or cell phone. This is not a fix. I simply want to be able to hear my favorite playlists on my Echo Dot, and it ain't working like it used to.

I'm having the same issue on my Alexa!

The question is if moderator of this discussion is really connected with Spotify or it’s just someone, who is some random from the internet. In civilized world it’s impossible to react for some issue like she did. Looks like few forum members informed about fixed issue not based on truth but only because she asked? (I know, I am weird).  And she could say: It’s fixed.
if the problem isn’t global and it’s just 0,001% of Spotify users, the real Spotify admins or other important people just don’t care. The problem will stay. If it’s just about 0,001% and only 10% of us will decide to leave Spotify, it will be about 100 people maybe. Which is skipable amount in their statistics.
Conclusion? Problem still exists and no one will fix it. I am an amateur, but finding a wrong line in the code and change it should not be a problem for experienced coder. If it’s few weeks… no one is working about it.
Wake up, they will do absolutely nothing for just few people only.
But I wish to be wrong.
Anyway, for some companies black PR is not important.

@AjTeX  Just an Update from my side... since I did updates on all my Echo dot devices, now everything is back to normal the way it used to work.
So my problems is solved after about 4 weeks or longer.
I really do think the right thing to do here, is that Spotify MUST at least give 1 month for FREE subscription.

I'm on a Premium account and this is NOT fair for paying for a service and not receiving for what you are suppose to get!!!

Further update from me:  After 48 hours with the updated Echo device software (version ending 5124), there have been no further issues for me with the playlists stopping. Thankfully the devices that refused to update yesterday on voice command (“Alexa, check for software update”) did so this morning. I suggest to those forum members who have not tried this, to do so.

@Maria I request that you escalate the following to your management (assuming as moderator, you are a Spotify employee):

1. Be specific in your guidance at the start of this thread about how to update the Echo devices.  Also look at the negative reviews on the Spotify skill in the Alexa app. It is clear that very many people are waiting for an update but I am not sure that this is an automatic process (maybe it is, when the next Echo major update is released whenever).

2. Spotify should credit everyone an extra month of their subscription as the software has not been fit for purpose for a month at least.

3. Spotify should be more transparent in future to its loyal user base. Without them, the company is likely to continue to be unprofitable and potentially could ultimately fail. You cannot buy loyalty and it’s a competitive market out there

Good luck all and enjoy your music!
