Playback stops after playing few songs on Echo devices

We've received multiple reports where repeat stops working & playback pauses after a few songs on Amazon Echo devices.

Hey there folks,

We've checked with our teams and this should now be fixed for everyone 🙂

Make sure that your Echo device is up-to-update, should you still experience issues. You can do this by asking Alexa for an update with the voice command - "Alexa, check for updates".

If the above doesn't do the trick, and the issue persists, we recommend that you create a new thread on our Help Board, so we can look into it further.

Cheers!

Hi there, played Spotify on my EchoDot since one year without any troubles. Now I have exactly the same problems like the other users here describe. Starting a Playlist on Spotify - equal if I start the playlist from my smartphone or directly from the amazon Alexa skill, maybe ten 8 till 10 songs playing smoothly then suddenly sometimes the songs stops in the middle or stops when a new song should start to play. after this I have to start the music again, then it could be, that it stops after one or two songs with playing. very very very annoying problem. get this solved Spotify.

Maybe for a better understanding how everything is connected:

Using Amazon Echodot with system Version: 10101204356

On the Echodot is the skill "Spotify" installed and successfully linked with my Spotify-Account.

The EchoDot is connected to my external Marshall Bluetooth-Speaker. The Bluetooth Speaker Software is also Up-to-Date and works absolutely fine with the Bluetooth connection.

When I tell Alexa to play music on Spotify, it seems to work correctly. the first few songs playing smoothly, then without any issue the Spotify app is pausing. when I check my iPhone Screen to watch if the title is stopped, the timeline is sometimes still playing but the song isn't playing. then I have to press pause and play again to run the song. Or I have to say "Alexa go on" so that Alexa starts the song again. I think it has something to do with the exchange between my Spotify app and the Alexa Spotify app. but I'm no expert and not shure what's going on inside the software.

Please Spotify do us the favor and fix this problem. Thanks.

I raised this with Spotify on X/Twitter.

The response (spelling error not mine!):

"Hey there! Help's arrived. Thank for reporting this. We're already aware of this. We are glad to let you know that this is happening to some Amazon Echo devices. This is not really an issue with the Spotify app. Amazon firmware just did some updates. And after the updates, some applications had some issues.

Here's some great news. A fix is slowly being rolled out to all Amazon users and will most probably complete soon. There should be no impact on your end and you won't need to do anything in order to get the fix.

Soudns good?

Spotify communicated with Amazon to get this fix for you. We can't process any timeframe. But rest assured that we're doing everything we can to resolve this issue as soon as possible."

So they know, are trying to solve it but can't actually say anything about when it'll happen.

How do I perform a firmware update?

Ask Alexa check for software update

My Alexa says it’s updated and it’s last update was August 2023.

Ask Alexa for new updates and it takes thirty minutes. It is available now. She will update the software for you. I did it now and everything works.

As stated above, ask Alexa for updates then she will apply the update with the fix. Supposedly Alexa should do it automatically so not sure why we need to do it manually but maybe it only updates on a specific time of the month(?) After applying the latest update the problem seems to be solved as I have been listening 30 min non-stop whereas before I couldn't listen to more than 4 songs in a row.

@cades1 worked perfectly for me. Thanks!
Specifically say this to your Echo Dot, "Alexa, check for software update”. She will warn you the process may take up to a half hour to complete (mine took about 15minutes).
After the update, Spotify was working again and I let it play for over an hour.
I'm sure if I waited long enough the auto-update would have fixed this (and it may explain why so many others were claiming it was fixed already), but I didn't know I could manually start the software update.
