My Question or Issue

This problem has been ongoing for a while so I’m not listening to much music anymore because of this.

Basically, whenever I’m trying to listen to the songs in my playlists, Spotify will randomly stop the music, and it will not show in the control centre or on the locked screen. The only way to resume listening it to open the app and press play. However it doesn’t continue where it left off, it will play the song from the beginning, which is really annoying.

I’ve tried clearing cache, restarting the app, reinstalled the app, restarting my phone, etc. But nothing has seemed to fix this. It happens with my phone only, not on any of my other devices. I’m at a loss on what I can do to fix this, any solution would be appreciated.

Hey everyone,

Thank you for reporting this issue to us.

The right folks have been looking into this continuously and regrettably weren't able to reproduce this behavior. Even for the long duration this issue was open, the total number of reports include a variety of devices and app versions, but have not been as substantial in the grand scheme of things.

This points to a sporadic nature of the issue and makes it difficult to find a direct cause. Based on the data gathered so far, the root cause of such experiences can range from network issues, to other apps taking over audio priority and the OS itself stopping the app when it might try to save battery.

So without being able to identify a specific cause, we'll need to set this to NRN. We recommend excluding Spotify from any battery saving toggles as a first troubleshooting step.

Besides that we'll continue to optimize the app to hopefully reduce the instances of this occurring. We'll also continue monitoring this thread for anything that might help us identify a specific cause and correlation between the cases.

Take care!

i recently started listening to music  on spotify again, and as soon as i did i had the exact same problem where my music would randomly stop and start from the very beginning. I am unable to listen to one song without this problem anymore. I have the Iphone XR, and everything is updated, i’ve deleted and reinstalled the app many times and the problem is still there. it seems that this problem has been going on for months, so i don’t think telling us to delete it or update it is going to help.

I'm having an issue very similar to what has been described above and it is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING and honestly makes me want to cancel my subscription with Spotify and go elsewhere. I most often search public playlists and just play/shuffle from there. I can't even tell you how many times it will either:

1. random songs will play for 9-10 seconds and then stop. If I try to restart the song from the beginning, then it just won't play at all. Sometimes if I go back and forth multiple times through the songs it might finally play.

2. When a song ends, the next song just won't play at all.

I don't understand how this hasn't been fixed yet, this has been happening to me for at least 3 months. I've done all the things listed above (clearing cache, offloading and reinstalling the app, updating the app, restarting my phone, background app refresh is on, turned off battery saver). I don't know what else to do but this is so frustrating.

This issue has begun happening for me on iOS after the most recent update available/installed on 08/17/2021, related to podcasts. After starting a podcast and setting the Sleep Timer for "End of episode" the episode pauses within the next 60 seconds. From there, when I open the app it appears as if the app restarted. I've tried all the steps mentioned above for other users, but no luck. And I can confirm this issue didn't occur before the update this morning.

Spotify Version 8.6.54.1230

iPhone 12 Pro, version 14.7.1

I as well just started having this issue this morning l. I listen to Spotify music at the gym, and pod casts probably 20+ hrs a week. I did everything mentioned above, even had to re download all my saved podcasts, and playlists which took 45 mins on wifi today before work (still not done) and even the songs/podcasts I listen to that have been downloaded crash after I lock my screen. However if I set my screen lock to never shut off and leave it open is the only way the app won’t crash. Need to get this issue fixed ASAP really surprised, and disappointing a multi million dollar company don’t have any customer support.

Why every time there is a problem do I have to do all the work and delete apps, music, podcasts, etc and mess with my wifi and devices. Just fix the stupid app.  Your last update broke it. Fix it.  Don’t make us jump through hoops. Just fix it.  Your app is rapidly becoming just as bad as apples.  Stop shoving ads at us at every turn and fix the product. Then put all the gd ads you want in the podcasts or music.  Just let us listen and fix the app.  I don’t want troubleshooting or 27 steps “to full delete the app and it’s data” I just want an honest update about when the new patch will be put out to fix it. Back out the changes and put in the previous code as it worked. This version does not.

Ok so I have had my issue resolved. You have to go to contact us talk to the stupid bot for about 5 mins, and finally they’ll set you up w a real person..

my issue was I had corrupted files in my catche (only they can see that they are corrupted) I then gave him permission to go into my account and delete the corrupted stuff… he then instructed me to fully delete the app and the data ( yes you have to re download your playlists). I am now not having any issues 🙌. He said re download them one at a time to make sure if it happens again you can just delete that download. Frustrating yes but I’m thankful that I’m finally able to use my app without any crashing! Hopefully this will help you guys.

same thing is happening to me too, it also happened earlier this year and magically fixed itself, but everything this user has said is correct, clean reinstall and all the troubleshooting does nothing. thinking of switching over to apple music which i really don’t want to do but this is extremely frustrating.

SOLUTION!!!!

Hey guys, so i’ve had this ongoing issue since january, off and on. Same issue as everyone else, song stops playing after about a minute, and it doesn’t show up in lock screen. I had to re open the app to restart the song, a real pain in the ass.

To get to my point, you have to go to Contact Us and then talk to the stupid bot for a couple minutes. Just keep saying “ I need more help” and they’ll eventually hook you up with an agent. Tell the agent your problem, and then they’ll remove corrupted files from your cache. Solves the problem immediately.

For spotify, i’m honestly really disappointed that a multi million dollar company can’t solve such a small of a problem as this. I cant imagine the amount of people who have already switched over to apple music because of this problem. This is some low**bleep**.

Anyways hope that helps

I'm on Android. I have the paid plan and it still does it. It's almost not worth paying for if I have to press play every ten minutes. I've done all the suggestions as well and there's some good days where I'm like yes! I can listen to music and other days I come on here to try and find a new solution that I never find.
