How are streams counted?

I'm following a very small artist who's just starting out and I want to support his music career. He just released his first song over a week ago I think, and I want to help. For two days now, I have been streaming his music pretty much nonstop on repeat on Spotify on my computer but muted on the spotify app and the volume in the computer, but I still can't hear him. I would put the volume up but I get distracted when music is playing while studying. I know a few friends have been doing the same thing few days ago. Are we still helping the artist or has it all been a waste. He did post the streams he got only on his story thanking everyone for streaming and that's it. But when I saw them I thought it was mostly my friends and I because his following isn't that big

I read that if you listen 30 seconds of one song, it's count as one stream.

Do muted in-app streams on computer count as a stream or does do volume have to be up

I think it doesn't matter the levels of the volume.

So I can just mute my spotify app on my computer and let the artist song stream on repeat 24/7? also is this allowed, streaming 24/7? I've been following this person for 2 years they have 7k followers and they just released their first single 2 weeks ago

We suggest that you check out this thread. Whenever you listen to a track for at least 30 seconds, it counts.
