Slow loading and performance issues

We've received reports about increased load times when performing actions like opening a playlist/menu or playing content. This affects primarily (but may not be limited to) mobile devices running Android and iOS.

Hey there,

If you're experiencing this issue, make sure to add your vote and share the following info (if you haven't already):

  • Your device's make, model and OS version;
  • The version of Spotify you're running;
  • The troubleshooting you've tried so far.

We'll keep you posted here as soon as we have any updates.

Cheers 🤘

Have been having this problem for a few months now; songs usually pause for a few seconds just after starting and the pause appears to get longer with each song until eventually the app stops being able to play any songs:

  • iPad (6th Gen) running iOS 17.7.11
  • Spotify version 9.1.68.1889
  • I have no problems with the Spotify apps on my laptop (Windows 11). mobile or TV (both android)
  • Switching low-power mode on or off has no affect on the settings.
  • The only thing that seems to "fix" the issue is to completely remove the app from my iPad and reinstall it, then I get ok performance for about a week or so before it starts degrading

Spotify has crawled for months. I have done all the steps Spotify suggests, with zero improvement. Every time some feature is added, that I don't use, like podcasts and audiobooks, it has made it worse. I finally downgraded my longstanding plan with Hulu to basic to try and get rid of those features so maybe the mobile app would run faster. No joy, and no more Hulu included premium.

Your direct competition's mobile app is snappy and responsive. Spotify has one billing cycle to fix its dial up performance, or I will finally leave after 14 years of a premium subscription. Do better.

Spotify on Android mobile has been almost unusable for me (and my partner as well) for at least a few months now, getting worse progressively. It's taking anything from 20 to 40 seconds to load almost any page or to start or skip within a song - it acts as if my internet connection would be extremely poor, but it isn't and any other app is working just fine for me. On my Android tablet, interestingly, I experience no problems at all and it's snappy. However I do like to use Spotify on my phone mostly so I hope it will be fixed. It's especially necessary to use it on mobile when driving, and I haven't really been able to listen to Spotify when driving lately due to the jam function also being almost unusably glitchy.

  • Pixel 6a, Android 16
  • 9.1.68.1888
  • Works fine on Android tablet, but not Android phone
  • Removing battery saver or deleting Spotify cache does not work

I just want to say that i think it’s awfully odd that when an enormous amount of users say the app is being slow, across all devices including ipad, spotify says it must be OUR fault.
Like oh, your playlists must be too big (like wth?! That has NEVER been an issue EVER!)

or you haven’t updated it or your internet connection is bad, etc.

How about this, @spotify… you take accountability and admit what is happening - that your app has gotten sooooo much slower and has become insanely aggravating to use.

Could it be that you’ve added SO MUCH AI SLOP to the app?? Could it be the AI search engine and the AI playlists and the AI algorithms that make zero sense and the AI playlist curator???? Could it possibly be that the app is insanely SLOW because you have pumped so much lazy garbage into it (the kind of garbage that is terrible for the planet and uses an alarming amount of water and resources) and that lazy garbage is making it hard for the app to function how it used to?

how do we get anyone at the top to pay attention??? Does no one working there actually USE the app? Because I don’t know a single person who has not experienced this issue recently.

it is making this app stressful to use because now it is overwhelmingly saturated with AI everything. And having to close the app 40 times before a single track will play is not only time consuming, it’s also INFURIATING.

so PLEASE for the love of music and sound and human-made art, get your team to fix it. Phase out all the AI stuff or at least some of it. Consider hiring humans as beta testers again before you put out a new update! Because most people do not like AI as much as you think they do… and you’d get some insight into what actual real users actually want in the app. Thank you

Behavior is somewhat better on desktop, but still not ideal. My wife’s account works fine on her phone, which is also an iPhone. Later I’ll try using my account on hers and vice versa and see what happens.

I’ve cleared my cache, re-installed, tried a different WiFi network, tried offline mode, tried using only mobile data, even painstakingly attempted to slice up my (admittedly large) Liked Songs playlist. None of that has helped.

It’s getting to be almost more of a problem than it’s worth. Paying every month for a music streaming app that allowed me to accumulate as many “liked” songs as I wanted, and to save or create as many other playlists as I wanted on top of that…only for the same app to essentially punish me for that and have no other remedies for this issue other than “try not liking so much music…”

I just don’t understand.

I have cleared cache, changed to streaming to low, problems persists even on my husband's phone

The app pauses at the end of every song, the next song will not load or play, sometimes the app opens to a blank screen, this is just beyond frustrating, I'm paying for premium! I have been a subscriber for years, I have never had this many problems with the app ever!

I have experienced issues with playback via Bluetooth after updating to the newest version of Android on July 8th. Spotify will not play audio via Bluetooth devices unless in "video" mode, despite Bluetooth audio working fine on other applications across multiple Bluetooth devices. I have also experienced lag as other users have described when selecting a playlist or song. I have tried multiple clean installs of the Spotify app in addition to testing different audio settings within Spotify and my system on Pixel 6.

When connected to Bluetooth, the progress bar for a song moves along fine and even though the volume is turned up, I cannot hear anything. When I turn Bluetooth off, the song plays via the speaker on my Pixel 6.

The Spotify app must now be so bloated! It’s running like a sloth on ketamine, ergh 😕
