My spotify username is turned into bunch of numbers and letters

My Question or Issue

I registered on Spotify several months ago. I NEVER registered with my facebook and it was NEVER connected to my account. I registered with a proper username [removed by Mod] and it always showed my proper username on website, desktop and mobile apps.
Today I noticed on desktop app that my profile picture is gone and I have bunch of numbers and letters as my username instead. When I opened my account settings in the browser it no longer showed my own username and displayed said numbers and letters for some reason. 
Web PLAYER inside the browser still shows my avatar and proper username but account page In browser and desktop apps don't.. whats the matter wit this? Please revert all these changes and give me back my username that i signed up with.

Once again, don't mention facebook: I never used it with spotify

I just checked the reddit community, they are have the same issue, not just us. Premiums as wells

music wont play in app or on browser. long serial numbers under every playlist, and has replaced my username. nothing is loading, nothing is playing.
tried clearing cache, tried clean reinstall twice, restarted many times, web browser, app, installing app from microsoft store, clearing out all spotify files in roaming and local directories. the only other suggestion is a full OS factory reset and theres no way im doing that when i can just go back to youtube. im hoping this will be fixed in time~ goodluck everyone.

exactly the same problem i have being facing.....even after trying to force stop and clear data, nothing seems to work

To everybody commenting on 29/09/2024, since I can see there is a lot of comments saying we have the same issue, I am sure it's just a server issue from their side and it will be solved in the few hours I think.

yes they solved it .....but my playlists arent loading yet.....tho i can atleast play songs now

We're happy to see some of you confirming that things are back on track again - that's great news 🙂

There was recently a temporary issue which caused the app to not work as expected, mostly affecting users in Asia. This was looked into by our tech folks and should now be fixed!

Should you still be experiencing issues, however, or if you're in another region, we recommend making sure that the app is up-to-date and to clear stored cache.

SOLUCIÓN: Me Paso lo mismo, me aparecia un codigo con numero y letras en vez de mi nombre de usuario, ademas no me dejaba reproducir ninguna canción y tengo cuenta premium... lo solucione entrando a Configuración, Perfil y cambie mi nombre de perfil (que aparecia alfanumerico) y le puse otro nombre entonces ya me dejo reproducir canciones y aparecen mis playlist sin cambios. Al parecer es un problema general, un ataque externo a sus servidores o simplemente alguna mala actualización de Spotify, quizas lo solucionen desde Spotify en los proximos días.

I had the same thing happen to me randomly last year. I was never able to fix it. I went from Ley to a bunch of random numbers and letters. All I can do is change my public profile name. I gave up.

You didn't answer the question, why the name was changed to random characters, which happened to me too. Why?

My USERNAME also still shows a bunch of random numbers and letters.

Pressing the letter (that's in the upper left corner in a filled circle next to my playlists) brings me to a side bar (which at the top lists my preferred "username" then selecting "Settings & privacy" then "Account" then below "account details," random gibberish, then my email. I'm on individual premium account. If I go to "view profile" (by pressing on the preferred screen name though, instead of "settings and privacy" it shows my preferred/originally created account as my name (TattooedMuggle like I said).

So strange. So long as I can sign in with my preferred screen name and/or my email I'll survive lol. Just don't want to have to log in with the random letters and numbers!!

Hey folks,

Note that there's a difference between a username and a display name:

• Your username (the string of random alphanumeric characters) is generated automatically by Spotify and is designed to identify you on the platform, so you can’t change it.
• Your display name replaces the username where it shows on your profile, app, and playlists. You can’t use your display name to log in.

I notice that my username keeps switching back to random numbers and letters, I usually have to go and edit it back again to my name. I have to do this often.

Can this be sorted out.

O have the same problem with username so thank you for giving me a possible solution. Also my initial letter A is flicking on and off to F? all the time. Thank you.
